Default Coverting from Nitro to Electric

So I am converting from Nitro to Electric. Receiver remains on separate 2S 3600mAh battery and 2 in 1 regulator. I was thinking to initially go with stock Align Motor (650XL)+15T, Align ESC and 6S 5000mAh.

Will I be content with this configuration for circuits, loops, flips and rolls type flying (no hard 3D).

What flying time can I expect under those circumstances. I understand from calculations that max headspeed of 1212KVX24V/11.33X0.75eff=1925RPM. Will I have a problem with temperatures.

I am aware of 12S, 10S and 8S configurations with 550KV-630KV motors running on lower Amps.

Don't want to spend a fortune on the initial conversion.

Any input will be a great help

I converted my 600 to 12S earlier this year. I chose the Scorpion HK-4025-550KV motor with a 6mm shaft, the Castel Creations Phoenix ICE HV 80 ESC, and an 18T pinion (RevCo). I use 2 Turnigy 6S 2650 mAh 40C batteries and I run in governor mode with a head speed of 2050 rpm. I'm extremely pleased with thsi configuration, lots of power and since I'm only a sports flier (figure 8, pirouettes, cradles etc.) I get over 7 minutes of flight time. All parts run very cool and I seldom draw more than 20 amps. My brother-in-law has the same setup except that he uses a 17T pinion and 3000 mAh batteries. He does flips, rolls, loop, full collective climb-out, inverted flight etc and gets about 6 minutes of flight time at a head speed of 2200 rpm (governored). As with my setup, all parts run very cool and it's never a problem touching the ESC or motors with your bare hands after the flight.

Since you're converting I'd highly recommend you to go the 12S path directly and not waste any money on a 6S setup to find out later that you’d like to convert to 12S.

Thanks, valid info. You may be right about going 12S and skipping the 6S stage. I am a sports flyer and already ordered my configuration.I decided to start of 6S partly because of cost. The parts ended up going with were K-Force 150A, Scorpy4025-1100KV+15T and 2X6S 5000mAh 25C's. I'll stick with it for now since the parts are already on the way to me and I eager to move forward.

Thanks for the valuable input and indeed i may end going 12S one day.....

Default All components present and correct.

Today all the bits came through the door from motor mount and mounting screws and spacers to motor and ESC+programmer. I am a bit disappointed there is no flat on the Scorpy 4025 spindle to lock the pinion on to so this will have to be tight with ample thread lock. So tonight will start the tearing up of the Nitro and cleaning any reminiscences of grease off the frame and derive components ready to accept the 'clean' stuff.

Very excited.

I guess drilling the holes for the motor mount will be the most demanding item so that the pinion hits the main drive at zero angle with correct meshing distance.

The lipos will be another week or so so will have to strap 2 X 2200mah 3s in series for testing

you should grind a flat spot on the motor shaft yourself. you dont want to risk a crash for 5 minutes of work

To make sure you dont get any metal filings into the motor just get a plastic bag and pierce it for the motor shaft and a wrap of tape.

She had her maiden hover, lovely and quiet, heard the blade frap for the first time on a hover. Still more twitchy at the moment then she was on nitro and with two 3S 2200mAh the CG is not correct either. Tonight I will give her a complete setup and see how I can improve things.

Thanks for everyone help and encouragement
