1st Repair Log
Ok guys, so I'm feeling silly but I've crashed my beautiful heli on my 3rd run. A gust of wind blew it towards me which freaked me out and as soon as it passed I cut throttle at about shoulder height. I guess what works on the smaller craft doesn't on this as the blades immediately connected with the boom on the (rough!) landing. In fact I think I really dropped it much harder than I thought given the damage I'm seeing!
The main reason I need help is the kind gentleman I bought this off modified this from the 3s setup to an extended 6s and it has a few custom parts I just need to check. The first question is can I run this using the stock blades? I have plenty of spares, but I'm unsure whether they'll provide enough lift, or if I'm wasting my time. The current ones fitted were 370mm and are now toast. Secondly, can the boom be bent back into shape or is that a waste of time. I've straightened it and pushed it out with some steal rod and a vice so that it will roll on glass with only a few mm difference but it will probably never be perfect. There's nothing sharp inside so I'm pretty sure the belt is safe. The boom is an extended boom, so if I fit the old stock boom and belt, will this bird fly with a 6s fitted or will it just all be too heavy? I'm not looking for amazing performance, just something that gets of the ground and lets me practice basic turns while I learn etc. Anyhoo, back to finding a simulator while the parts arrive.... Parts: BLH1605 - 4x8x3 bearing Main Grip and Tail shaft BLH1668 - Tail Rotor Pitch Control Slider Set BLH1663 - Tail Case Set: B450 3D/X Not bad I guess as besides loosing all the blades the main rotor and all linkages seem fine. Any advice appreciated! |

Spindle shaft is for sure toasted. Always bends when blades touch.
On the other hand... you had a boom strike (blades hutting boom) on such (as you describe it) "simple" crash? Not normal... Also, work all the servos with hands to see if they still run smooth. Some detailed pictures would be nice, to try to understand what is standard and what is not...

Thanks Coco, I'll work on the pictures.
So it will spool up without the blades ok, no odd noises that I can tell and all the servo's and linkages appear to be working fine. The FBL seems to be doing it's job and holds everything in check when I move it. How can I check the spindle shaft? Or is it just something you notice at high speeds during a run so it's best to replace and forget about? |

Ok so I found a video on YouTube for the spindle. That's less straightforward than I thought but definitely doable, thanks for the heads up.

It seems like I can't edit posts as a new user, so, sorry for the duplication.
I'm thinking of getting the Blade 360CFX main and tail blades to match the stretch (Lynx stretch mod). The sizes look about right compared to what's on at the moment 370mm (on currently but ~360mm to the hole) 360mm (CFX). You were right about the spindle! Unfortunately the spindle I have in the spare parts bin is BLH1621 and looking on the net what I actually need is BLH4321. So, looks like I could be confined to the sim for a while now. The other thing I need is the boom, given I'm waiting on parts now I don't see the point in chancing it not being right. Not sure what caused the boom strike. The only thing I can think is the helicopter may have rolled over on its side on impact, but that's kind of inevitable. If you've got any advice there I'd be all ears as I'd like to avoid that happening again if I can! I did pretty much freeze and just drop the throttle to 0, so I guess next time I'll try and go slower when I'm cutting it. My old tiny heli kind of kept some momentum in the flybar, so it wouldn't fall out of the sky like a rock when I did that. It was probably 10x lighter as well though. Lesson learnt. |

If you dropped the collective while crashing... depending on your Pitch curve, you may have smashed it to the ground going negative. Most likely you did.
TH is your friend there... learn to use TH while crashing instead of the collective stick. So you will cut motor only.

I was flying it out of stunt mode using the variable throttle for height. I barely had enough throttle on it to take off.
The thing is, I thought it just slowed throttle in that mode? Are you saying it may have killed the throttle but also directed the main blades down at the same time for rapid descent? If so, that would explain what I saw. Bummer because I was trying to pick the 'right' mode that wouldn't let me do that. Sounds like I just need get the sim and become a lot more comfortable with the controls... Next time I'll just use the TC button... Also, before I run the order, any recommendations on parts I should keep on hand? The spindle seems obvious as well as blades. Is there anything else you'd recommend?
