Default Tail Boom...Last Dumb Question of the Night...

Alright guys, me again...I know, I know.

I promise, this is my last dumb question of the night.

When I was adjusting the tail boom on my heli after my crash tonight, I noticed that as I look down on the heli from above, the tail boom seems very slightly angled to the right, or to the opposite direction of the tail rotor.

Is this normal??? Or have I done more damage to the heli than I had originally thought??

It seems to sit in there just fine still, and regardless of where I position in for belt tension, it still kicks to the same angle.

Thanks.
Jeff

No the tail boom is suppose to be straight.

Well, it is straight.

It just comes directly out of the main frame at a very slight angle. Don't know if that makes any difference.

Here is my crude drawing of it.

The top one, obviously, is straight coming out of the back of the frame. The bottom one is how mine is. The boom itself is straight, it's just at a bit of an angle. The drawing isn't nearly as close to the actual angle, it's just drawn that way as an example.

If it's angled like that, but still perfectly straight for the entire length of the boom, does that mean that it's bent inside the frame??

I gotcha. No it's not suppose to be like that. Everything should be 100% straight. You probably bent the boom right where it comes out of the frame. That is a common place for it to bend.

Have you pulled the boom out of the frame and inspected it?

After I crashed, I thought my boom was fine. I noticed, though, after a few flights and chewing up a set of tail blades that the belt tension wasn't right, and the heli seemed to be sitting on the skids with the tail fin touching the ground (it normally has clearance when the battery is in place). Looking at it closer, it appeared that the tail was angled down. I pulled out the boom, and it turned out that it was bent where it went into the frame. Absolutely not noticeable from external inspection, though; a very clear bend once removed.

Pull your tail boom; I'll bet you find the same thing. If it's not bent, then check the frame.

Okay.

Looks like it's back to part ordering.

Thanks!

Tail boom bent???

Nah...

...try bent, cracked, and actually physically broken.

So yah, I'm definitely going to need a new tail boom now, too.

Oh well...live and learn, right??
