Scorpion 4035/560 and YGE 120HV setup ???
Hi guys,
i have the above setup in my Compass 7HV. Now i was reading through some topics over here and it's getting me really confused. I have my timing set to 18° and PWM at 8khz. What should be the ideal settings for this setup please ?? One more question about programming the ESC through the prog card II. When my ESC is plugged in my RX (throttle) and i use the 4inch short programming cable on the ESC i'm not able to get the Prog Card to read my motor settings. First i connect the 12S lipo to the ESC and afterwards i plug in the receiverbattery and my prog card does not arm. When i unplug my throttle-lead coming from the ESC to the RX and i use the 4 inch programming cable from the ESC, i connect the 12S lipo to the ESC and than i use a 4cell NIMH battery to power the prog card than the prog card reads my motor settings and makes the correct sounds. In this case i wonder how i can set my low and high throttle endpoints whithout the ESC being connected to the RX. Maybe i'm doing something wrong here, so please help me out guys ! Grtz, Dirk

Hi Dirk
I am using Scorpions recommendation of 8KHz & 18 degrees for my HK4530-540. I assume you are using a external BEC? If so, unplug it from your RX or FBL controller. Turn on your TX and power your RX or FBL controller with your NIMH pack (I think the ProgCard can only handle a maximum of 6.5V), this will also power your ProgCard, wait for the LED's to finish cycling then plug in your Lipo's to power the ESC, once the confirmation from the motor is complete push the Enter button on the ProgCard and you are good to go! :thumb up: G.

There are two versions of the 4035/560. One is the older design which is the HK-4035/560. The newer version is the HKIII-4035/560.
If you are using the newer HKIII, then the recommend timing and PWM are : Recommended Timing ................................ 5 Degrees Recommended PWM Frequency .......................... 8 KHz These are copied from: http://www.innov8tivedesigns.com/pro...roducts_id=790 There are a few out there who say the Scorpions run smoother at 12 Khz. I have always ran mine at 8 Khz.

Timing
Now I'm confused. I had some problems with the setup on my hk3 560. When I asked about timing everyone here said to set it at 18 and the pmw at 10. Where do I go from here. The recommended 5 degree timing and 8 pmw or what?

I don't know where Innovative gets the 5 degrees from or if it is relative to anything.
18 degrees is very mild for an outrunner by most standards and what most ESC manufacturers recommend. If you try it at 5 (or a low setting) it will not run well. You will get more power in the low to mid 20's though... 8 is the correct PMW. -P

18 timing is the standard for YGE + Scorpion. It just is different with each ESC. The PWM depents also on the pole count. There are plenty that use 12pwm. You can calculate an estimate for this. I did find 10 runs much smoother.

As for the topic, YGE recommends 18 degree timing for the 4035. I asked this before and the man himself, Georges, answered:

...ok, now my question, I'll reuse this thread since I have the same setup.
Have you ever got over-temp warning, three beeps? In that case, was the ESC warm to touch? I use to get it at 66% throttle (ESC) and the ESC is not so warm. Strange issue.

The other thing, it's not exactly an over-temp warning, it's just a raised temp notification. If it over-temps, it shuts down to 50%.

ok, thanks for great info! I was trying without canopy today and that went much better! No warning how much I tried. So I will make a big hole in the canopy and have cut away the shrink wrap also (not only for the ESC, the Scorp gets really hot also)
