Default Maiden flight/Break-in

S W E E T ! Why was I flying the 450 all this time? This 600n pro kit is just awesome. Just curious on how much tanks is everyone else going through before tweaking a little more HP out of this OS 50 Hyper? Please give me your opinions.

I only have one tank on mine, going to finish the breakin today. I personally would run 3 to 4 tanks rich leaning it out a few clicks at a time.

I'm planning to maiden mine this weekend. I plan to put about 4 tanks through it to break it in. I've heard a good way to do a quick break-in is to alternate between hovering and landing/idling.

I went a little over board and used a whole gallon to break in mine.

Welcome aboard guys, you made the right choice, if you have somewhere to fly it you will not fly anything else, I just leave it in the car and only bring it in to charge the lipo.

4-5 tanks is about it and take it easy.

I had 1 1/2 turns for the first 4 flights then wound the needle valve in 2 clicks per flight till I got to a little bit less than 1 1/4 turns. I can still keep my finger up the bum end of the engine for ages it is only a few degrees warmer than ambient, I can probably lean it up a bit more yet.

I have subsequently turned the low end in about 10deg to help in winding up to speed.

Sometimes I go to Halawa, but mostly at the Kawainui Swamp. I fly airplanes too.

The OS HYper 50 being a ringed engine doesn't need long breakins like non ringed piston engines - just time for everything to bed in - I reckon about 4 tanks rich on ~ 1 1/2 needle turns - check the head temp (<90°C) then start leaning up a click at a time.

What head temp shows you are at the right point with the engine?

I'm probably at 12-15 tanks now and still running rich. I have a slight hesitation at spool up, but otherwise runs and flies great!

Just curious at what kind of gov is everyone using and whats your headspeeds that you set up for? With that in mind, whats your flight times at?

I'm using a Multigov and its set up at the default settings which is 1800 for normal and 1900 for idle up, my needle is at 4 clicks leaner from 1 1/2 turns out, on my 7th tank and having 8 minutes flight time in just forward flight (feeling my heli out first before attempting 3d). My buddies suggested using 2150 for idle up.

Pretty much same as you. Multigov with the normal mode set up as a limiter, 1800 RPM.
5 tanks through it, just hovering and I was getting around 8 minutes or so but I'm still fairly rich.

I have not done any FF with it but my multigov is set up for 1900 in idle 1 and 2050 in idle 2.
