Default bought the 130x

Well guys I went and bought another heli. When does it stop lol. Wow. I went ahead and got the 130x I am excited. I have been flying it on the sim a lot and it is a fast little burger. I noticed that slow flight is a lot more difficult than the 450. I can fly it nice and smooth now and do nice smooth turns it handles nice. Im sure you can probably set it up to fly similar to the 450 but man it is turning some serious head speed. My local shop still carries a lot of parts for the 130 so that is good. It does look like it is going to be quicker than the 450 im working the sticks quicker on the 130 for sure. That is what I am looking forward to it seems to make me better yet on the 450.

It worked, my reverse psychology, reactance is a powerful tool !

Anyhow,
Welcome to 130x anonymous, where we have been discontinued, but not disbanded.

After you get the tail sorted and acquire some metal gears, that 180 woulda been cheaper.
Its not too late.. That is my "I told you so" comment, young jedi.

Just kidding, I am sure you will find the 130x most addicting, and every penny spent takes you one step closer to... a 180, no no, the 130x state of Heli nirvana.

DS76T What will be the best answer to the 1st of many many tail questions.

If you have not done it yet, get the metal "A'' gear. the plastic one will not last.

On top of metal gears you will want a metal tail case which you can adjust the gear backlash. It makes a huge differenc in tail hold and performance.

Oh, and to save money in the long run, if you get another, buy used. I picked up a very low mileage one in the past few days for only 50 bucks. fifteen dollars later it was flying, no vibes.

I agree with koi fish. You can also save by buying used air frames. I bought one off eBay for 50 bucks in new condition and have been pulling parts off of it instead of buying parts brand new

In addition they're selling brand new red bull 130x for 75 bucks on ebay. you can use the mainboard (2 wires reversed), servos, a, b gears, motor, tail grips, tailshaft, final tail gear, and probably a couple more doodads. saved me money there too.

Have spare A,B,C,D gears for sure. I for one had trouble with the Metal A gear, not sure if anyone else did. The diameter seemed slightly larger than the original plastic and it was very close to the front servo board, possibly rubbed. I went back to the plastic, they're quieter and work just fine as long as you don't crash :-) Pick up a spare tail and cyclic servo as well. Make sure you re-route the tail servo wire up and over the mount not thru it like stock. I had my wire melt/short on that board, losing the tail causing some damage. Picking up a used or discounted second heli for parts is a great idea (mentioned above). I have 2 just for that reason. This is my favorite heli and is always my first choice for banging around in the back yard. I don't fly 3D and this heli responds well being tamed down with DR/Expo. Speed control accepts a customer throttle curve so you can fine tune head speed to your liking. I personally will be flying this heli for a long time, its a blast and a great teaching tool.

Couple upgrades i forgot to mention. Get the carbon fiber boom support rods to take some of the flex out of the boom. I also purchased the lynx tail grips/slider and that really took a lot of play out of the tail. Everything else is stock on my 130x. One other thing to watch is slight binding while rotating the blades. It seems the motor pinions on these are very soft. Once they wear you can get some light binding as you rotate. I was able to flip my pinion over and it improved.

The best upgrade I found to get besides the metal A gear is the Lynx TBSR boom with supports. It really stiffens the tail up and has a bearing for the TT which really helps in eliminating the tail vibrations. Also the Lynx heat sink is also good to have for keeping that motor cool. It seems to get really hot. I have one with just those upgrades and is super smooth. I really like mine

I was not aware of that upgrade thanks Pilotrob i'll def. be picking one of those up. I'm still getting a buzzing resonance noise coming from my 130 that comes and goes every 5 secs or so. I'm wondering if that tail upgrade would address that...hmmm :-)

Firehawk, hang on to your stock boom, that way incase you crash and crack the TBSR boom you can cut down the stock boom to fit and save yourself some money. That bearing keeps the TT from slapping around inside the boom so that should help with the vibs you are having. You might have to trim some off the end to get it to fit perfect but maybe not.

That coffee grinder noise you're hearing is coming from your stock boom. The torque tube is basically having a party in there. I just replaced mine with the Lynx TBSR kit and the tail is rock solid now. No trailing, drifting or wagging like my stock one after 6 packs. I highly recommend this upgrade. Be sure to weigh and balance your tail blades as well.
