Default what do longer blades do?

Just wondered what you get or don't get out of longer blades, I have 315's on my heli now I guess, cause i didn't even notice that the extra set that came with it ( plastic ones I do nto plan to ever use) are 325 and just a tiny longer then the woods thats on it now, tonight i got some more blades at the hobby shop and well got home there 335

there even more longer, accorse, so what would be the affect of longer ones

Longer blades do plenty - its all pros n' cons.
Pros:
More stability
Longer flight times possible cos lower headspeed needed
Bigger heli feel - smoother cyclic
should auto better (I can't do 'em yet tho)

Cons:
Soggy cyclic
Less crisp for 3D - in fact less suitable for 3D
If you keep the headspeed the same as for your small blades the flight time will go DOWN cos the 335 blades are bigger and take more power to swing 'em.

Bottom line: For stooging around and gentle aerobatting about, not 3D and getting longer flights with a bigger feeling heli - go with the 335s. I liked them.

For hot 3D and crisp response go with 315 or 325.

One other difference is low disk-loading so more ballooning in wind. However it is only about a 6% difference so perhaps not really noticable. For general flying from hovering to acrobatics the 325 woodies are the sweet spot. 335s for longer mild FF flights at lower headspeed.

Im currently flying the 335 pro blades, I bought them by mistake, I thought they were 325 pros. Since they are a bit longer I think they would be better for doing autos but the only diff I notice is that my flight times are 1 minute shorter per pack then with the 325 pros, guess they take more power from the engine/pack.. Im flying them using the same power/pitch curves as the 325 pros and the flight times are shorter..

Bravo99 - to get the longer flight time you have to take advantage of the 335s greater lifting capability by LOWERING the headspeed a little - thats where the flight time comes from, less Headspeed, but its all trade off........

Well I figure after next crash I will go back to 325 so I didn't bother changing the curves but Im sure your right, the longer blades should give me more lift so I don't need as much head speed which should save power..

I want to try 335's on my SE V2. Who makes good carbon 335's and what is a source in the USA? I've checked a few etailer's and they don't seem to be highly available.

Thanks,

Smokinjoe

Longer main blades IMO are more likely to make BOOM STRIKES!
Most people who are using them need more lifting power to carry things like cameras .I wouldn't use them. They take more power to run them and they do cause ballooning .
