Smile Gaui X2 & HC3SX - Wow!!!

Hi,

So yesterday my Gaui X2 arrived. I managed to fly 7 packs through it , and what a fun heli it is!

The full specs are below:

YGE 30A ESC
Stock Gaui scorpion motor
HeliCommand HC3SX FBL controller
Gaui Servos an cyclics
MKS DS95i tail servo
Turnigy nano-tech 1Ah 45-90c lipos

The HC3SX was a very tight fit, in fact I had to use the thick foam pad which is not recommended. Below are a few pics - unfortunately no flying ones yet.

Anyway, I charged all the batteries (take about 10 mins each at 6c)

The HC3SX setup took about 30 mins...

I wasn't really sure what to expect when flying it; it was a windy day, and I thought the heli would be very drifty due to its small size. It is in fact very stable. The tail was rock solid, and for the first 10 mins I did my usual flying in circles and a few stall turns. I had the HS at around 3900rpm (YGE governor). Anyway, I found myself to be very confident with this, and on the third battery attempted my first loop. That went OK and was much easier than I thought. The tail blew out once, but I increased the gain by about 20 on the HC3SX and this seemed to cure it.

Then I thought I'd test the HC3SX bailout whilst inverted. So I held the heli at the top of the loop in a sort of inverted hover, and flicked the switch. Within about 2 seconds it flipped itself from inverted to upright and began to climb!!

Knowing that the bail out worked so well, I got a bit more confident with it, and by the 5th battery (I had to recharge the lipos) I could easily do stationary front, back and sideways flips. By the 6th battery I was confidently chucking it around (or what I'd class as that), hovering it inverted and I tried a couple of tic-tocs (these seemed a bit harder than on the sim).

Anyway, I did manage to end up crashing it. I had used the bail out about 3 times during all the flights, usually because I had lost orientation as it had gone too far away. On the 7nth battery it had got a bit too far away, inverted, and instead of flicking the bail out switch I had hit throttle hold!! So it dropped a good 40 feet into the grass. I tried my best to auto it, and all that broke was one landing skid!!

Out of all the helis I've had (logo 400, trex 450, trex 500, mcpx etc) the X2 is easily my favourite. I managed to progress more in one day with it than in 4 months with the 500s, and the lipos are only £7 each )

The HC3SX made sure it was extremely locked in, and the bail out gives you the extra confidence to try something new without worrying that you will crash it as much.

So, all in all a great little heli together with the best FBL controller I've tried made for 7 very enjoyable flights - I will try and get a video up in the next week or so

Any further new on this Stanley?

Thinking of trying my hc3sx on my new Eflite 300x (~the same size as your X-2). Anything I should know about putting it on such a small heli? Thanks.

Cheers,
TomC

sorry I haven't been on here for a while and wasn't subscribed to the thread.

I gave up on the gaui due to the feathering shaft snapping in flight on multiple occasions...

The HC3SX should work fine on your 300x with the stock BEC etc. You use the sat that is on the side of the PC connection.

Thanks Stanley, sorry to hear about your X2 spindle problems. A few guys are snapping main shafts on the 300x's. Always something eh, lol!

Saw a 300X snap a main shaft at our club just spooling up on the ground was doing its 2nd battery ever. 450X works great though and had the hc3sx work fine on one of those.

Did you use the stock 450x esc plus one sat on the hc3sx? Thanks.

cheers,
TomC

Yeah i am kind of a inexperienced with the mechanics side so I just plugged it into the stock esc I ran two Sats at the time no issues on the 450x. I've got just one sat now on my 450 pro v2 and it's working fine stock align esc on that too.

Was the hc3sx meant to be more power hungry than other fbl units?

The HC manual says you need to use min 5.5v for sats. Maybe this is if you are using 2 of them and have a large sized heli with large power hungry servo's?

Thanks very much for that info btw. I just set up my 300x with stock esc and 1 sat and am just about to test it out. Fingers and toes crossed, lol!

Cheers,
TomC

I'm no expert I skipped the manual and went with the setup wizard and online guides instead. 5.5V hrmm might have to ask a mate about that. Just cause it works on mine may not mean it won't have a failure after awhile.

The HC3SX won't draw any more current than a 3gx, vbar, brain etc so if other fbl controllers are fine with 1 sat on 5v then so should the hc3sx.

If the voltage is too low for a sat then I'm sure the HC would let you know.

Just finished giving a couple of test fly's on my 300x. First one to set the tail and head gains, second one to try out the horiz rescue mode (3D acro). All I can say is Holy Crap!!!! Works like a charm. I'll give a few more test fly's and rescues tomorrow.

Cheers,
TomC
