Default Anybody else have bad luck with 1 way bearings?

I just got my Hurricane 255 about 2 weeks ago and have not really even flown it yet. I have had just a few short setup/trim flights. About 1 and a half weeks ago I had a hard landing...really, not a crash just a hard, dig in to the dirt a little landing. After that I noticed my one way bearing wasn't holding/engaging correctly. It would get a very slight grip on the main shaft but with any force at all it would slip. So I made up a list and ordered a few spare parts to have on hand. I went ahead and put on a new main gear (because it looked a little warped) and pressed in a new 1 way bearing. Today I went out to fly, landed gently to add a little trim. When I applied throttle I noticed that same clicking sound and blades just barely spinning as before. The meshing between the main gear and pinion is good. Is there something I am missing? Has anyone else had a similar problem? Or do I just have bad luck?

Looks to be a case of bad luck, i haven't had to replace mine yet after 2 minor crashes, my old 200 on the other hand did have to have about 9 replaced. I went the route of buying the gear with bearing already pressed in.

Yeah, I would have preferred to get the already assembled gear, but rick at clubheli.com was out of stock when I placed my order. I guess I will try another one. Hope it works out better this time. I really want to get this bird flying good.

I think they are back in stock.

hi! I've had one way issues high head speed.actually for me it was the main gear that got loose.. I know some people use glue but that didn't work for me. I needed change the red gear so often that i decided to use the t250 one instead. That solved it because of the metal core.. The meshing was the the same..

is the Trex 450 main gear a perfect fit? Do you have to mod anything? When using a 250 gear you also use the trex one way bearing and holder correct?

Here is a Trex 250 main gear in my X2. It sits lower than the stock gear so I have fitted an extra plastic pulley on top of the Trex gear.

I have done only a couple of flights with this setup so it is too early to estimate how it will last in a long run.

Very interested in this

very nice indeed!
Good idea Picofly, looks more simple to implement than what I have
But how does the autorotaion behaves? is the uper-part pulley with the belt grinding the lower main gear when releasing throtle?

The T250 is otherwise straight fit, in that sens that the one way of the T250 is the same size, and shaft also is same.

It is a snug fit but but the pulleys do do not grind each other.

I have just removed the CNC collar from the lower pulley and expanded the hole to ~9mm. At the moment I have CA'ed the pulley to the Trex gear but I may fix it with screws when I need to remove the gear next time (after the next crash, that is).

It was a very easy mod. It took less than 10 mins. accomplish.

Nice mod, Picofly. How did it work out? Are you still using it?

I have just had another one way bearing fail. Not sure if it is spinning in the gear, or has failed. This little heli is getting tiresome. There is always something to sort out whereas my Trex 250 just flies straight out of the box.

So, I am after a good mod for the one way bearing now, If the Trex 250 gear fits easily, I will give that a try,

The bearing is fine. Turns out the bearing to gear interface is the issue. Do you think a one way bearing with a knurled outer surface would help? I see Boca do one - HF0306 KF R.

It probably wouldn't hurt. But if it were me, I'd glue the bearing in instead. Prep the surfaces and use a quality epoxy and you should never have a bearing/gear issue.

I have just used a spot of CA on the bearing/gear interface, so time will tell if it holds or not.
If that does not work, I'll try some expoxy, and if that does not work, a trex 250 gear.

CA seems to have done the trick so far.
Six batteries through the heli today, with no problems.

Anybody found a definitive cure for this issue?
My OWB has just started spinning in the gear again.
