Yes, I actually do that on my 600 SE. The 500 hasn't had a crash (knock on wood) for a long time so it still has the screw in the bottom of the boom.

I was shaking nervously before I even carried it out to my yard. I switched out of throttle hold and let it spool up (no kick ), lifted off and then relaxed a little once it was in the air. It hovers like it's in gps hold mode compared to my 450x It's way more visible and actually a little quieter too.

I just hovered tail-in for a minute or 2 at the low and medium headspeeds and checked rudder direction a little bit (no full piros though). Went gently up and down and side to side a couple times and then did a mini-auto landing from about a foot high (with a small bounce ). I can't wait to get it out to a proper field and really fly it.

I think I noticed a slight tail wag so guess I need to play with the gains a little but at least it's flyable now.

yep it's grounded

yes very helpful thanks. The voice threw me at first. I thought something was wrong with the video or my computer. I need to study the gyro gain video now.

I checked as best I could. I didn't find anything loose or wrong with it though I'm kind of wishing I had got it out at ircha and found somebody more experienced to double check it with me.
I only bought the airframe/blades/esc/motor together used, but it all looks brand new. The servos, vbar and spektrum satellites were all bought new and installed by me.

one simple trick with the tail is the trailing sharp edge of the blade always goes in the direction of the radio. If you hit the stick right the sharp edge should go right. Push the stick left and the sharp edge goes left. I was always overthinking the direction and half the time spinning the heli on the first spool up.
