I am running 12s on a kde 600xf 530 so I don't have any hands on experience, but here's a list of 6s motors to start this off:

Align 600mx 1220
Scorpion 4020-910/4020-1100
Scorpion/Hyperion 4025-890/4025-1100
Scorpion HKIII 4020-890/4020-1100
Scorpion HKIII 4025-890/4025-1100
Kde 550xf-1200
Kde 600xf-1100
xnova 4020-1000/4020-1200
xnova 4025-1120
Quantum 4020-1100/1200
Pyro 600-9/600-11/600-12
Savox 4750
Castle Vertigo 550-3530
KDS 4020-1100

And if you don't mind hobbyking(I will only list the ones I think are good):
Turnigy t600-880/t600-1100
Turnigy 600 h37404-910
Turnigy 600 h3736-1000

Quite a few choices. This is just for 6s. The complete motor list would go on for days. The x5 gives so many options.

I run the align 730mx motor and 7s packs. Even though the motor is rated for 6s it at 850kv it is still turning the same rpm as most 12s motors so im comfortable doing so. I have 3600mah 7s packs and fly for 4min. The heli is stretched to 550 blades and I am running around 2600 head speed

You know, I was wondering about going to or trying 8 cell rather then 12 but then realized none of my chargers can accommodate that.

So after another brown out and a crash and talking with Dave at Anythingheli I decided to go with the Hyperion motor. It is half price now and has quite a bit more power than the 4020 and I'm hoping about the same flight times. I have to redo all of my ESC connections as I think that is the cause of my brownouts. I did not snip the ends of the Castle wires and simply soldered them to the connectors and there's a good article in the Castle forum talking about the different solder they used and it is advised to snip the ends...unless you have a torch I suppose. Anyway, hope to be back in the air this weekend and will post once I have a feel for the motor.

I remember the last time I went on their website there was a hyperion 4025 1100kv motor. Is that the one you speak of? It should work great.

BTW. Although the stock 910kv motor and the 890kv version of the 4025 have higher power ratings, the 1100kv version of the 4020 and the 4025 may be more powerful on 6s compared to their lower kv counterparts. Those wattage ratings are on 8s for the 890 and the 910, and on 6s they are lower.

The 4025-890 will have more power than the 4020-1100, or the stock 4020-910. Both 4020 motors will have similar (within 10% or so) power on 6S, They will just spin at different speeds, and will need to be geared differently to achieve similar heasdspeeds..

This goes for both 4025 motors as well, they will also have similar power when ran on the same cell count.

Edited. I meant in comparison to the lower kv version of the same size. Idk how noticeable it is, but inferring from the whole mini protos running good motor at wrong voltage thing, I suspect the stock motor is usually not run at its full potential.

So this is a new strange thing I experienced today. I just put in my new Hyperion 4025-890 motor and it starts to spin backwards and then switches directions. What the heck? Obviously the wires are plugged in correctly, plus they're all matched R-R, W-W, B-B and the motor is spinning correctly. Any thoughts why this is happening?

Ok, after changing the Motor Startup Power to 100% full in the CC software, the reverse part is gone but it still stutters at startup.

My timing is standard; Motor = 5, and PWM 12 (it was on 8 and trying a couple of changes to stop the stutter)

Timing seems right....

Did you try a higher PWM setting...?

Yes, 8 and 12 acted the same. I also tried setting the spool up speed to high and no change. So, at this point maybe it is just a castle thing. I don't think there's much else to try other than a different ESC.

It is a castle thing. Try a Hobbywing 100 v3. Much better esc.

Thanks Newb. If it keeps acting up I may do that. From all I read on here HW seems to be a popular ESC with good reviews.

I promise you this. It'll drive that motor far better than the castle. Plus the bec is way better. The Hobbywing gov is also better. It also has a built in rpm sensor.

Yes, people seem stuck on CC but they arent great escs. Hobbywing is the only thing I run. They understate their stats in my opinion.

I have a hobbywing 50a v3 running 480mm blades in my logo 400se performing flawlessly. It's rated for 75a for 10seconds. I am stretching that logo to 520mm blades adn will keep the same esc.

When running vbar gov, the new HW is the way to go. I used the internal HW gov for a little while and can't really comment on it. But with the vbar gov I have probably close to 500 flights on my x3 and now about 20-30 on my logo. I had it on my protos 500 for about 20 flights.

I agree with Newb, HW is the way to go. I setup the old hobbywing HV esc in my x5 a while ago and it works great (close to 300 flights), or I would switch over to the new one. If it aint broke... ya know!

+1
For 6s escs around 100a, Hobbywing 100a v3 takes the cake. Mine is on my 6s x5 and it runs cooler than my edge 80hv on my 12s one. To be fair the 12s x5 is way heavier, using way more pitch and more headspeed, but the hobbywing just stays impressively cool and has a bec that is unbelievable.

The edge 80 hv doesn't stutter my motor though, and I wouldn't worry too much about your esc if its an edge series. Those things suprisingly are some of the most reliable escs these days, and they are completely compatible with external govs too. Castle cremations has moved on, though the bec in the lv line is still quite pathetic.

Okay, forget it... Get the HW ESC....

Have to say, I run two (40 and 100A) old platinum ESC and couldn't be happier...

If I ever need a new ESC I would by a HW V3 in a heartbeat...

I love my YGE 90LV. But if I had to replace it because it failed or died or whatever. It would be a hobbywing 100 V3. I really like the 50amp V3 on my X3. I swear to god, after changing out the Edge light 50 for the hobbywing, my vibes actually went down. Which tlells me castle can't drive a motor very well. My opinion though.
