Default Parallel charging?

I've just purchased a Meanwell RSP-1000-24 PSU which will give me 24 volts and 40 amps, hence 1000 watts. I have an EP Buddy Paraboard 30amp with EC5 connectors and XH balance taps. I'd now like to buy a Cellpro Powerlab 6.

Is this Paraboard compatible with the PL6? Or do I need a Cellpro Paraboard and/or special connectors (fused?) to enable me to safely parallel charge 2 x 6s 4500mAH lipos?

Any opinions on the RSP-1000-24 PSU and PL6 combo? My previous experience has been with mains electric Bantam BC6.

I have the PL6 and love it.. I bought the paraboard the same one you have.. and yes it works great
but I really wish I had bought the FMA one with all the self resetting fuses on the balance taps.
I shorted the bottom 2 6S taps when I connected a 6S tap unenevely but in the correct hole and it shorted out.

also the FMA one is rated at constant 40A where the paraboard states only short periods of time at 40A.

Id go with the FMA it will last the life of the charger.

I'm sure your power supply will be fine.. I'm using 24v 1800watts 72amps for my setup.. and it loves the juice.specially for high amperage parallel charging.

I've checked both UK Distributors from time to time but web-sites don't appear to be very conclusive - announcements for the holiday period August 2011 don't exactly inspire much confidence in April 2012. I prefer buying from The RadioControlshop Ireland but they are currently out of stock of the PL6 MPA package.

As you are browing this forum and this thread, perhaps you can advise as to whether the board and MPA would be preferable to the basic PL6 combo - bearing in mind my wish to parallel-charge at least 2 x 6s packs per session, but not charging through the balance taps. I'm not expressing myself very clearly tonight - apologies.

IMO this is the best starter combo. You get the charger, the cool new MPA parallel board and the PC interface which is indispensable.

Hi:

Just make sure you understand: you have to connect both the balance connector as well as the main pack wires any time you use the PowerLab 6. Unlike the PowerLab 8, it does not support balance-wire-only charging.

Regarding MPA combo vs. standard combos, I'd have to say I'd prefer the MPA combo. It's really nice to have 6 safe parallel adapters on one assembly and also have provisions to connect up all the pack main leads. A lot less clutter. It also supports packs up to 8s, and by the time you were to buy all the regular safe parallel adapters to get up to 6 packs charging in parallel, you'll save yourself a lot of money going MPA from the get go.

Right, have now got that in my brain-box and am happy as to what I'll be needing - so thank you Tim, and thanks to all who have responded and posted pics of the pack required.

Yes, the Gens Ace use the JST-XH balance connectors as does the Revolectrix MPA parallel board. If you are getting new Gens Ace packs, you may also what the extensions mentioned in this thread.
