Default Blade Nano CPX Setup question

Hi, I have a Blade Nano CPX, I have been learning to fly it in Mode 0. When ever I fly it and shut down the throttle the Heli slams down to the ground. I thought it was only supposed to do this in Modes 1 & 2 ?

Do I have it setup incorrectly? If so what is the fix or setting needed to stop it from slamming down instead of gently landing when I chop the throttle/power.

Don't chop the throttle. It has some negative pitch in normal which it is suppose to. Be easy with the negative pitch and use throttle hold if your going to crash.

That's the tricky part about going from a fixed pitch to a CP heli. I've sent my nCP X rocketing into the ground a few times. Use the hold switch on your radio to cut the throttle when you're about to crash.

I'm assuming by mode 0 you mean Normal mode and mode 1 and 2 are idle-up 1 and idle-up 2.

Not sure what radio you are using but as NCcraig suggested, get used to using throttle hold to land (or crash) and I suggest you make sure the throttle hold pitch curve is the same as the mode you are flying or you may see a jump when you hit throttle hold.

Don't ever chop the throttle/collective!

I was wondering if I could set it up and fly it as a FP heli.

Could I set it up like my MSRX?

You can adjust the pitch curves but whats the point? You bought a collective pitch heli so learn to fly it like one. I went from a CX3 to a Trex500 and didn't want the Trex to fly like a coax. Fixed pitch teaches you too many bad habits like chopping the throttle.

I would think you could make it FP by putting in a flat pitch curve. You would have to experiment with the value for acceptable flight. I would guess somewhere between 55 and 70.

You're right that would probably work but it's about the nuttiest thing I've heard all week!

It might be fun to play around and see what happens.

Just make it so there's 0 pitch at 0 stick. I still have all my birds set that way to this day in normal mode, even though I do most of my flying in stunt mode.

Brosho has a valid question. How does one soften that up?

And before everyone jumps my case (NCCraig). I have DX6i and can have multiple settings for the same Heli, so having my Nano act like a CP or FP should be just as easy as selecting a model on the Transmitter. Or am I wrong?

1) I want try this setting for indoor flying, It's getting cold and windy and want to have some indoor fun.
2) I need to see how to do this/learn how the pitch curves are work.
3) Using setting off the internet are a good starting point but what is the best way to understand them.

I'm much older than most people on here and faily new to this heli hobby so any help would be greatly appreciated

IMHO, how you setup your heli is specific to YOU and where your skills are and you want to go. If you want to fly a CP like a FP, do it. If you wanna go full flat TC, do it (my preferred method). I don't think anyone is right or wrong, as long as you're having fun flying then seems like you're doing it right, whatever setup you choose.

Funny how everyone is avoiding answering the question. I think it's very valid.

But I gonna keep the trend and not answer it too.

I'm going to look at my settings under Pitch Curve right?

So what would need to be do to soften that pitch curve, so I can find something I can work
with inside.

Thanks.

i have my pitch curve in normal mode set to 30-40-50--66-82

and my throttle curve is set to 0-40-77-95-100

for me this is for just flying around my house, and practicing hovering in all directions. it keeps a little negative pitch for when spooling up and it keeps even my very tired main motor from bogging under full throttle/pitch. also i have an mCX2 full fuselage and carbon landing skids which both add a bit of weight, the extra few grams helps to tame it down a bit too but definitely puts more strain on these already delicate brushed motors.

Hey everyone.

I just picked up a nano cpx. In regards to your question about taming down the pitch. What you can do is adjust the pitch servo travel. I personally use 110% negitive and 110% positive, I found you can go all the way up to 125% positive with out any mechanical binding of the swash plate and 125% negitive respectivily. If you want to make it have less negitive pitch on lower stick you can change the negitive to <100% (id try 75% to start) and it will reduce the negitive pitch and make you landings softer until you get the hang of the bird. This with changing the pitch curve should soften it up. Also you can also adjust the settings for your aili/elev/rudd in the "d/r expo" tab to make it smoother and avoid a tip over on landing (this is all assuming your using a computer remote) so that with the flick of a switch you can go from soft controls to a more sensitive setup.

Best of luck!

There's a very lively discussion going on regarding this very subject over here:
https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=481746

Basically the discussion revolves around the use of asymetrical blades (used on fixed-pitch helis) on a Nano for training and casual flying.

Does this include when using full cyclic in any of the directions at max collective?

Did you test this by removing the main motor, powering up and playing with the signals (as the AS3X does not allow proper servo movement unless armed - see 130X thread on How to zero out pitch/roll/yaw rates at center sticks for the bad mainboards)?

Do you have bogging issues when using max collective?

Just some thoughts.

Default Tamed Nano!

I took Bondkiller 's advice and set my Pitch curve to

50 60 70 80 95

And my Thro Cur to
0 25 50 70 90

and so far so good.

Now I am not doing any 3D but I am flying fairly aggressively with no problems. This setting works great indoors and out. While I do want to start doing some 3D, I have put that off until I am more comfortable with more fly time. And my Nano has tons of flight on it but I don't overheat the motor and I fly my other Helis so my Nano motor cools off.

I really love this heli along with my Mini CP. I may even convert my Super FP to Mini's.
