You guys must have a hard time deciding which ones to fly with. So many good canopies here.

Lots of inspiration here.

Default First canopy paint

Nothing fancy but better than white fiberglass! First attempt at a heli canopy. HK 500 CMT with a Trex 500 canopy.

Default First paint job

Hi all had a go at painting my first canopy. Sorry if i nicked bits of other peoples designs.
Its an fg canopy, i primed it, and gave it a coat of white with rattle cans and then masked up ready for the fun bit. First of all done the checks, then the yellow bottom and yellow stripe, then the light blue fading dark blue and finally candy red for the windscreen. Came out alright for a first go, learnt a lot doing it and ive got loads of ideas for the next one. This forum gave me the inspiration to do it so thanks for all the ideas and info, everyone thats posted.
Ive posted a few pictures and just need to clear coat the canopy, and then polish all the orange peel out probably
Cheers, Geoff

Really?... Your first paint job? That is great man, it makes my first canopy look like I put the paint on with a Home Depot Roller...

Yours looks real nice.

How did you lay out that checker pattern? Did you lay the masking down on another surface then cut and use transfer film to transfer to the canopy or just cut right on the canopy?

Share some tips...

Hi thanks i am very pleased with it for the checker pattern i just cut slighty skewed squares from 1in masking tape and stuck them on one by one to make the pattern its a bit long winded i will probably cut it on the canopy next time and the rest is just 3mm line tape except for the detail lines in the red and blue that was 1mm. I have just cleared it with 2k rattle can and it looks relly nice the colours show up much better and the fade from light blue to dark blue looks cool i will post some more picks when it has hardened. I have enjoyed this one and i will be starting a new one soon and hopefully doing a bit moor with the air brush but not quite as complicaed as most of the conos on this forum some of them are outstanding but everyone has to start somewhere so maybe after three or four hundred more practice goes i might be getting near
cheers geoff

Hi all its had a few coats of clear now still needs to be polished and decals applied but its looking good i used rattle can 2k clear it works well it lasts about 24 hours in the can so you can use the same can to recoat which makes it a bit more cost effective.
