Question Motor setup w/ Quantum 4135-530 on Goblin 630

Hello All, I've been running into a 'challenge' with setting up my 630 comp. I'm using a CC Phoenix 120HV ESC and stock pinion (21T). Right now I cannot get more than 1964rpm before my Castle tells me it will not comply.

I used interface to play with the pinion but would need to go up to a 23T before it would give me anything solid above 2000.

I would like to see 1900 for Normal and 2100 for idle 1. SAB chart says with a 22T I should be able to get 2280 out of the ICE 120HV. Castle governor interface tells me with a 22T the best I can expect is 2050 at 94% throttle.

I'm nervous about going up to a 23T on the Quantum, but right now my headspeeds are so low I'm ready to try anything. So how about this? Any hints or suggestions for this combo?

I was using the built in 'calculator' when you set up governor headspeeds using CastleLink. When I put in the KV, poles, and ratio I would try various speeds. As I mentioned, with a 22T pinion, it wouldn't let me select more than 2050 before it tells me I don't have enough headroom with my motor/pinion setup.

Since I want to use my ESC for governor control, I figured if it wouldn't accept it, I would be limited.

Not sure about the calculator you mentioned. I will see if I can find it and see what it says.

There's no reason to be nervous going up one on the pinion to get your headspeed you want. You have the right motor and the right ESC for that helicopter. I mean that motor is literally designed for the 630. And that ESC is capable to run 700 class helicopters.

Now if you had the 80 amp CC... you'd be cruising for a bruising. Some people do try to get away with the 80A ESC. But anyone who has seen the Goblin 630 in person... knows that it is literally a 700 with a little shorter boom and little shorter blades.

You can easily 'fool' the Castle software into allowing a higher RPM to be programmed.

In the Throttle tab click on the 'battery type' button and change from 'LiPo' to 'Other'. This allows you to custom set the cell voltage, change it to something like 3.9-4.0V and set the number of cells.

This higher voltage will now allow higher headspeed to be set. Of course if your motor has enough overhead to govern is another thing. The 630 is designed out of the box for a 560kV motor, so if using 530kV it stands to reason that you will be a bit low on headspeed with stock gearing.
