Default Logo500 ultralight

Has anyone ever tried putting the Logo400 head on a Logo500?

I was just thinking about how the Logo500 frames weigh almost nothing so it might make for a sweet 400se...

Logo 400 and 500 head is the same. 400 frame is lighter.

You could try a logo 500 with 470 blades and mini servos. But it would look funny

Oh. I didn't know that... I was thinking full size servos since even cheap plastic geared full size servos would probably perform extremely well.

Ok, so, I'm thinking 500 frame/canopy and 600 tail with no boom supports and the tail cut down shorter than a 500. Then 400/500 fbl head, mini servos, scorpion 4015 retapped M4, Mod0.7 gears and 6s3700 (600g) or so.

My only real concern is that the only XL belts I've been able to find around the right length are neoprene/fiberglas instead of kevlar or vectran reinforced. I figure the belt would need to be somewhere around 55in long.

In the past, I had a Logo"550" with a 600 size canopy and tail on it. It was a little funny looking too but I liked it.

That would be RAD! Let us know if you do it. The old school white logo 500 canopies with blue decals are a lot lighter. Maybe use a cut down CF 25mm boom?

Yeah. Definitely 25mm boom and 600 tail. That's the only way to get away with no boom supports. The 20mm boom isn't quite strong enough to pull it off at that length.

Just noticed that the difference between the 400/500 heads are the grips. So if I want to spin 470s then I want the 400 grips and if I want to spin 510s then I want the 500 grips.

I think it is just the bolt holes. Pretty much same grips.

I recently purchased a used Logo 500 with the VBar head, but the main grips were the 3mm Logo 400 variety. The heli is spinning 553 Edge blades, and given the headspeeds (1750 RPM in gov mode), I think the grips are fine. However, if I change the gearing out to allow for a higher headspeed, I think the Logo 400 grips might be a little flimsy/weak, so I'm swapping out the grips for the 500 grips (with the 4mm bolts).

I have the fat boom, as well as the Mod 1.0 gearing (11T), and this heli is very quiet.

Cool! Yeah. I was thinking that my grip choice would be dictated by my blade choice given that the 470s have roots like 425s and most 510s have roots more like the 550/600 blades.

Does anyone have any advice on mod 0.7 gearing with a 12T pinion and will I have stripping problems? I'm looking at a ~1800w max continuous motor.

I messed around on the sim last night and I think the sweet spot is around 515mm blades running 1600rpm. This points to a 3026-880 or slightly higher Kv 6s motor. Unfortunately the next highest kv motor I've found in this size is ~1400kv which is just too high.

I need to find another source for belts because McMaster doesn't carry the 'ideal' length for this blade size.

I would think that motor might be to small, even with 515 blades. I would use a Scorpion 4020

Sim predicts peaks less than 900w at 1800rpm so I think it'll be good. The thing that I always forget is that power required is proportional to the square of the headspeed... or something like that. So at just 1600rpm, the power required is very low compared to the 'norm' of 2300rpm.

Timo Wendtland style low headspeed 3d. Hoping to basically make a mini-TDR/mini-600se.

I'm glad you made me recheck my math. Turns out my 3026-880 is actually an 8s motor and only produces ~1100w on 6s. However, Scorpion used to make a 3026-1000 and this produces 1300w on 6s and the gearing works out very nicely. Now, I just need to locate one.

You can also use some KDS parts. I built a logo/KDS

If you have any questions on what will work or won't just ask,

I'm trying to keep it as light as possible so I won't be using any heavy CF/aluminum parts.
