Taking off looks wrong to me
Hi all,
I've seen 120 sr videos for various take-offs and they look straight forward. When mine starts taking off it either goes backwards, sideways or forward... Never straight upwards. Is that normal below 3 feet? Should I take off more quickly to 3 ft altitude and hover? Can't figure out the issue as I'm new to this. Thanks for the advice |

While they may appear to go straight up....they do not. If you do a little research on this in this forum there have been many posts on this subject. Do to the rotating mass of the blades they always turn and move to the right. Many experienced flyers make corrections on their sticks before taking off to help correct this. Yes a quicker liftoff does help, however if you have not yet gotten the skills to compensate then it can get you into trouble. An awfull lot of very helpful reading is availiable on this just do your research. Good Flyin!!

One of my favorite things to do is practice nothing but takeoffs and landings from a stationary hover for 3 or 4 battery packs in a row. After a few weeks of occasionally doing this, you'll get pretty good at recognizing where the controls need to be to prevent any sliding around on the ground, drifting on takeoff, or yawing. With some experience under your belt with no wind conditions, doing this in a breeze or 2-4 mph makes it more of a challenge.
Best regards, John L. |

A GOOD PLACE TO START https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...81#post3854881 Then read everything in this link it will help you! 120SR SETUP, SERVICE & FLYING LINKS FOR NEWBIES https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=496890 Click the links and take some time to read all the flying documents. Practice spooling up slowly. Get a hold of the tail and lift off as described. It will be ugly for a while, then it will just get easier as you begin to fly the helicopter instead of chasing it. This will help you! Ron

The prop wash has a large effect when you are near the ground.
Every thing I read say's get it off the ground fairly quick.I think this is true of any single rotor heli and even worse on CP helis. Don |

Ground effect is your enemy, especially when you are learning to fly. Get the heli into the air and that will make hovering easier for you.
