I only use the Align 205 CF blades, and weigh them on a 0.01g scale.
I checked the COG a few times early on, but found they're all right in the center of the span anyway so I don't bother to look at that any more. My tolerance is about 0.20g difference between two blades. If they're within 0.20g of each other, I throw them on and then maybe make a minor adjustment for tracking. If they're more than that I mark them with their weight at the root, then put them on the shelf. Eventually... I'll have 2 previously unmatched blades that will end up matching something else on 'the shelf'

Stick them on a toothpick and place it on 2 glasses like a seesaw. Add tape till the seesaw is level

I bought a long 2mm machine screw and a couple nuts and use the two glasses. First find the COG and mark it once they are both the same. Then I add electrical tape to the COG to the light blade. I bought my CF blades from HK and they were way off. I got them dialed in and they fly well.

I got my blades from xHeli.com. I balance them using K&S balancer and then use Tru-Spin balancer to balance the whole head with blades on. So far so good and heli flies well.

Can anyone explain why balancing with a digital scale doesn't seem to work for me?
I've been flying the same blades balanced with the align tool for a while. However, I lost the align tool the other day so bought a digital gram scale . According to this the blades didn't need tape so out of curiosity I tried taking the tape off, but on spooling up they were obviously unbalanced. Put the tape back and everything was fine again. Cog is the same on both blades, although tracking is a bit off. |

Most likely your head is not balanced. I use a dubro prop balancer and I balance the entire head. It is the best way I have found to perfectly balance your head and blades at the same time. Vibe free.

Having the blade at the same weight, doesn't mean the blades are balance. It could be one blade has thicker root and thinner tip and the other is the way around, thinner root and thicker tip. Both can be the same weight, but obviously, if you put on a balancer, they are not balance.
So you cannot rely on weighting scale. |
