Default Should I stretch?

Today, I had power failure and damaged my blades. Before I buy new blades, I want to consider doing the stretch. What are the advantages of stretching?
Am I correct in thinking I can go 4S with the stock setup, and to go 6S I need to change the motor?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going for 4s, for ideal setup you need to get the 2010kv motor. So far, what I really like about stretching is that I can fly up to 6min of sports flying. Loop, inverted flying, a bit of tic toc and stationary flip etc !! I can even stretch my flying time which I haven't tried yet as 6min per flight is more then enough. Besides that it keeps my lipo healthy. (even though it is really hot in my country..my esc and lipo is still warm)

Hakiem,
What is your set up?
Motor, pinion, battery, head speed, blades?
I would love to get that kind of flight time while sport flying.
Thanks
Matt

Stretch == Love.

I flew mine stock 3S / 325 for just over a year, and last weekend flew it on 6S / 350 for the first time. It's a completely different helicopter! You really wouldn't think it would make such a difference, but it does. Oh, and Matt you can definitely get 6 minutes of sport flying (or more) from the 6S setup. I did 5 minutes at 2800 and based on recharge data I could have easily pushed that to 6.5 minutes. Dial it back to 2400 (which is more than enough for sport flying) and you could probably go 7 minutes on 6S 1300 packs!

Oh, to the OP: You need a different motor for 4S. The KV is too high on the stock motor to run 4S and keep the headspeed in the "sane" region.

Thanks for the input. I think if I have to change the motor either way, then 6S is the way to go. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the two?
Also, I also have the 500. Could I use the motor from that in my mini? I haven't flown the 500 yet, but I'm sure a bigger power plant wouldn't hurt it either. And if I can get away with doing that swap, then I will only need to buy 1 motor.

Saweet Chris! IMO 6S is the way to go no matter how you fly! There's just no downside!

Stretch and never look back

I wouldn't give mini the 500 motor, better keeping it light. It's perfect as it is

Ok sounds like 6S it is. So I can keep the stock Esc right? And what's a good motor to go with, and Kv range?

Stock YGE works great with 6S. As far as I know, the only motor to use is the one MSH offers (it's a Scorpion with a special long shaft):

http://elektrorc.com/product_info.ph...oducts_id=1376

I went from the stock motor / 16T pinion to that motor / 15T (on 6S) and my headspeeds were exactly the same at the same throttle settings as they were on 3S. Sure makes it easy.

Perfect. Now after all this, I'm still with a 500 that still needs servos, esc, and AR7200BX. I'm thinking, should I invest in the 6S stretch right now, or just replace the blades and stay stock and complete the 500. Any suggestions there? Lol

IMO finish the 500, then you have 2 protos .

Then you can stretch em both later .

I would finish the 500 hundred if you can. You can stretch the mini later. I love the way my 500 flys. Power is sick and it locks in very nice.

Is the 6s stretch up to hard 3D? or would the 3s stock setup be best?

Thanks, that is the plan then. Get the 500 up and flying, and enjoy both of them, and do the stretch later. Thanks for all the help.

Im using quite similar to most Mini 4s pilot use. But I agree with everyone, just go for 6s as you will definitely get a constant 6min flight duration. I can get up to 6 but once I start flying a bit of mild 3d (using the same setup etc), it drops to 5.30.
