A friend of mine is interested in selling me his TREX 450. I don't have all the details but this is what I know. It's about 5 years old. He used it for a while and then put it away.
TREX 450 with Flybar. 2 batteries - he says he charges them fully every few months. After 5 years, with full charge, are these toast? A battery charger A DX6 (not DX6i) transmitter. A travel case. He's asking for $500 I already have a DX6i. I see new 450 super combos for less than $420 but they would need a receiver. And this one is already built which has advantages and disadvantages. This would be my first 450 size bird, so I don't want something super expensive since I will crash it. I also see $500 RTF combo with a reciever brand new. What would you offer for such a package? From what info youve given us. Sounds like a pretty dated setup. I definitely wouldn't give more than $200 and thats only with real good electronics in it. (and id still be Leary at that price). That DX6 5 years ago was like a $200 TX now youd be lucky to get $60 for it.
For $500 you could get a REAL nice 450 with up-to date electronics in it, in the for sale section. BTW Id just count on those batteries being toast. Lipos dont like to be stored at full charge. Besides the batteries are so much better now adays than they were 5 years ago.

Are the parts dated? I don't want to offer him less than asking price because I value the friendship.

Well like say for instance if it is the 450S the motor was a "short can motor" and was less efficient/and less power than motors we have today, same for the other electronics Esc, servos etc.
Also does it have the aluminum frames, FG, or CF...obviously CF would be more desirable etc., etc.,etc. head design, tail design is better in the new models etc. Might be better since he is a good friend just to politely decline, and find a better deal somewhere else later.

Yeah, hobby king really killed the lipo market withdirt cheap prices. you're better off getting a sport combo and a dsmx or futaba fasst radio w/rx. his radio system is probably dsm1 or dsm2... both are stoneage by todays standards. and a lot of guys have had dsm 2 problems at my field.... so i went futaba with out issue.
if you have $500 to spend, do it right and do it once.

For perspective, on another forum I bought a used Tarot 450 Pro (current design), flybarless, with a Walkera TX & RX, 3 almost-new batteries, and some parts/tools, for $235.

Given it's age and dated radio, I think I would pass on that no matter what price he's asking,

Oh IDK, what if its a SE-V1 with 65mg's, a GY401 and S9257? All equipment that would have been around at the same time as that DX6....and all similarly dated, but all good equipment none the less. IMHO it would definitely be worth $200. and if you were to sell that Dx6 and ar6000 for $50 youd be into the heli for $150...a VERY good deal!

If he wants $500 and you offer him anything near what it's really worth he's just going to be angry. It's not worth it.
Batteries are toast, don't bother DX6 is old old old "A battery charger" isn't very descriptive, but I highly doubt he's got a Powerlab8 or 3010b in there, probably something worth $10. You could buy your super combo and get an OrangeRX with sat for $30. Or you could build up a very solid clone for less. |

You can buy a clone kit and slap on a DFC head and metal tail upgrade w/ one piece design and still be under or barely $200 minus the tail upgrade about $150 and you can pick and choose your electronics !! If your starting fresh go FBL and don't look back !! It's easier to setup and fly !! A Tarot ZYXs cost less than a Quark !!

OK I found out it's a 450 SE V2. Do you see any issue getting replacement parts?
He offered to lower the price. Any more opinions? |

what servo's, motor, gyro and esc are in it? What is he asking? if it is still above the 200 - 250 range pass on it. Buy new, for the original price you can get a clone and spektrum Tx (new) for less, or an Align kit with current electronics for less.
I can still get replacement parts for mine. EXI, Tarrot, Hobbyking all have parts for the V2's

I can tell you that Even 200 sounds high. I was looking to sell my V2 with everything Minus my DX7 for 150. That is MG-65 servos. GY401 Gyro AR6100 and a butt ton of spare parts. You can offer 200 for his bird if you want but I have found that Trolling Craigslist is also a semi viable option to finding a used RC Heli
Oh that also included My Heli case and my parts bin case. |

I know the gyro is a futaba headlock gyro, but I don't know any model number. I don't know the rest yet.
Current last offer was for $350 |

Honestly, I think the best thing is to pass. There are better, more-recent, heli (and gear, like TX) available, for less money. My $0.02.
