Making tools from other hobbies, in this case a c-clip installer
While replacing a worn feathering spindle, thrust bearings, and dampers on my Magnum 44 today I needed a tool to help install the c-clip on the spindle. I couldn't find the piece of aluminum tubing that I normally use.
Wouldn't you know, the OD of the Bergen feathering spindle is a perfect snug fit inside the neck of a fired .308 case! I'd normally say a piece of fired brass fitting perfectly on a helicopter part is coincidence, but Chris probably planned it that way. I sacrificed one of my many cleaned & freshly annealed 308 cases by cutting it down and now have a new tool for installing the c-clips. The old thrust bearing between the screw and case keep the case from rotating and dragging the c-clip around while tightening the screw to compress the dampers. Always fun finding something from other hobby works for alternative uses. Looks way cooler than the "boring" old piece of straight aluminum tubing too.
