Default Idle 1,2,&3 Settings

I'm in the final set up of my MD-700 on the iCon V1. time to set up my governor setting.

Main Gear is 121 teeth
Motor Pinion 13 teeth

I calculate that to be 9.31 to 1

Motor is a KDE Direct 700-295 G3

According to the motor spec sheet 9.5 ratio give me a recommend head speed of 1200 with a max head speed of 1450.

For gear ratio 9.0 the spec sheet calls for 1250 with a max of 1500

Since my ratio is in the center between these to ratios I'm thinking 1225 and 1475 max.

So, I'm thinking Idle-up 1 = 1125 Idle-up 2 1225 and idle-up 3 1350

Helicopter is set up for 12S two gens aces 5500 packs.

Ultimately I plan to stretch this helicopter to 800 mm but figured I'd fly it as a 700 for a while to get the feel for it.

I think you will find those speeds a bit optimistic. I use a calculator that I got from scalerchelis.com and it's results are lower for top speed. They match what I get when I use a Castle ESC most every time. The numbers I get give you a maximum speed at 100% throttle at 1266rpm and a normal governed (at 92.5%) speed of 1171rpm. Until I got my 12t pinion, the governed speed was very close at 1190rpm. If you want a bit more, the 14t pinion would be an option and I am looking at getting one so I can try a bit of F3C type flying (Class 1,2,and 3 AMA). You will get very longer flights than I do with the 5500's, that's for sure. I am using the 12t pinion right now and I will be able to verify that I get close to the stated maximum governed speed of 1091rpm at 92.5% a bit later today. I will come back this evening with the results as I am also verifying my Heli-Baby head speeds. It is a great flying helicopter, that is one thing for sure. Catch you a bit later.

That actually sound pretty good. I was looking for LHS of 900/1000/1150. Sounds like I'm in the ball park. Looking forward to your reply.

I did get the top speed verified and it is 1090rpm, which is 1 rpm slower than the program worked it out to be. So to recap, I am running the same motor with the 12t pinion and 121t main gear. The settings I have are 800rpm at the low end, 925rpm in the middle, and 1090rpm at the high end. I know that the program is pretty much spot on with the real time results but my tach will not go below 1000rpm so I have to trust the CC programming. I will end up with the 14t pinion, as I pointed out before, but will still go for a low head speed for fun in the 800 to 900rpm range.

This machine will fly at 700rpm but you need to make sure you have 14 degrees of pitch available. I had backed off my pitch in the Demon settings so when I went to run it today at 700rpm, it held altitude but just barely. Rather than tempt a disaster, I set the rpm back to 800 and called it a day. I might play more with it in Dalton next week. Take care.

Don, have you got it in a body yet or are you still flying pod and boom. I'm having an issue either with the iCon or the King Kong III 200 speed control. Every time I throttle up in the governor screen I loose connection between the Icon and the Icon software. I'm also not getting any RPM Indicator in the software. I have Idle-up one set to no governor for set-up and the motor spools up smoothly. Also, if I kick it into idle up two or three the governor takes over like it should but I'm still getting a disconnection notice and no rpm report.

My adaptor cable between the speed control and the icon is old and I'm hoping it's bad. If not it's either the icon or the speed control. Got new cable ordered plus a couple of spares.

I might actually get some flying in if it will ever stop raining in Texas.

Mine will only be pod and boom. I really don't have the room for an 800 size scale helicopter, lol. I can't give you any info on the Icon/King Kong issue you are having but my main blades are Rotor Tech Industrial 810's and I am running a tri-blade tail with 120's on them. I can now do a fast forward pirouette both directions without the tail stalling part way. Also, no more tail blowout when doing a full pitch climb out. Hope you sort it out.
