Can someone recomend a good hex driver set? Building a trex 500 and don't want to be stripping any heads out. Thanks..

The Align's are awesome.

Heli-direct also sells a 4-in-1 that's kind of an Align knock-off, but the quality is good. Serves 2 purposes, nice for the field bag and when you need to double-up on some sizes like for feathering shafts.

Hi,

The secret tip are OFNA hex drivers with the black handle. Very affordable, super durable. With the set I have, I built several cars and helis over the past years. It is still runnning strong. I built the T500 with it: Not a single head stripped. Just add some tiny amount of grease to the first thread of the screw, before you go in.

I started out with a set of Aligns and while the tips are good, the handles leave something to be desired, i.e. it's hard to get a good grip and I've had the end cap break on one of them. I've been gradually replacing them with Thorp drivers, which are a little pricey but have some of the most comfortable handles I've ever used. I probably won't replace the 1.5mm Align since I have very few uses for it after getting rid of my 450.

i have a set of wihas...and, while they have great tips and lifetime warranty, the handles are too small to get enough torque on screws you really need to set hard--especially in the larger helis (600 and bigger--especially clutch and pipe screws or electric motor mount screws). i can usually make due with the aligns, but even they're not full sized.

i'm thinking about getting the odonnell set with the full-size handles...but, it's a little $$$$$. maybe santa is listening.

I like the Align also a lot, I did 5 builds and stripped some screws but the tips are undestructible. For me the grip is good enough to tighten good even on my 600. Maybe that's my hand though. Also I like they are different colour so you spot the one you need right away.

Yep, they're made by Thorp. Mine all say "Thorp" and "MIP" on the handles. I have 2mm, 2.5mm (flat and ball head), and 3mm. The ball head is indispensable when working on nitro engine mounting bolts.

Cheaper than from mip and free shipping in the usa, cheap shipping elewhere. I bought the .90 and 050 for my 250, loved them so i then bought the 1.5 and the 2mm for my 500.
everyone says they are expensive, but for a quality tool that really makes a difference i think $13 is very reasonable.

I love these. I use a ratchet screwdriver or a drill . If you use a drill to tighten be careful you can break the screw. These are low priced but very good quailty.

The MIP/Thorpe drivers are my favorites. I also have a set of Losi drivers and they are good, but not quite as comfortable as the MIP/Thorpe drivers.

I like the Mavrick set, knurled aluminum handles for grip and two tips for each size (ball and straight). Also color coded by size. About 30 bucks for a set of four.

The WIP seem to have the best machined tips, often extract a screw where others bits have rounded out
