Default Fried my new servos

Somebody kick me, I was about to install some new outrage bl9180's in my new 7hv & accidentally plugged a 6s lipo into the vbar As you probably know, the servos started smoking & are now unresponsive. The mini vbar appears to be unaffected. I could just scream right now I'm so mad This is a reminder why I like to work on my helis with little distractions. At this point I'm hoping they can be repaired & save me the cost of new cyclic servos, damn!

Dang man sorry to hear that. I only takes a second in this hobby. I've seen more than one experienced flyer hot start a Nitro which causes all kinds of issues. It's one of the reasons I love it so much. Attention to detail is everything.

Your not lying there. I'm still in need of a motor so now I'm delayed even further, guess it could always be worse.

Don't mean to aggravate the situation, but how did you plug a 6s battery into the Vbar? They don't have the same connector do they?

I modified two servo wires to have two servo ends going into the vbar while the other end is for battery connection (ec5), sort of like a y-cable. The modified wire was intended to be used with a 2s lipo for a HV setup.

I see. They say hindsight is 20/20, but I think maybe using EC3 or JST for the flight packs is the way forward?

Sorry about your servos. Hope they will be salvagable. I'm not even going to look up their replacement cost. :-/

+10

Should be standard practice on a build, make sure you use different connectors for each voltage, then this kind of problem could not occur.

Of course we all love hindsight, and I have made plenty of stupid mistakes. I must be a serial FBL headblock wrecker, I just stripped the threads for a washout arm out of my 3rd head (all on different helis )

I modified the wire since I had a regular 2s lipo lying around, although I could have used a different connector. If I must repurchase there going for a $100 less than what I originally paid.

My worst mistake was spooling up an align 500 to test after a complete rebuild from a bad crash... on a towel.... the towel sucked up and the damage was worse than the crash.

Wow, I can image how you feel. But at least you probably prevented a lot of people from making the same mistake. I know I will be extra careful now.

Kudos to you for posting these. Puts me in mind of hot-starting my Hirobo SDX with a brand-new clutch. Had the radio on the wrong model. Truly stupid but I've never done that again.

I can tell you that a major guru on HF and elsewhere confided in me via PM that a dumb mistake had delayed the flight testing of a new heli I was asking about. So these things happen to even the most experienced and carefully focused people in the hobby. Not all of them put it right out there for everyone to learn from so Yay to you guys. .

Well, I'm actually feeling a little better now. After contacting RH about my mishap they informed me that the servos will be on sale for another week so I went ahead & placed the order before they possibly sell out. In addition, they offered an additional 10% off due to my misfortune. This is $136 less than what I originally paid so I'm grateful. After 3 yrs in the hobby this has been the most expensive mistake that didn't involve a crash, a crash is easier to accept. We live & we learn.

now check on how much to have them repaired, this might turn a mishap into spare servo's for future heli or replacements on the current one. The main board in the servo is damaged the rest is prob still functional, this is a easy repair for the manufacturer. I am sure they have a repair cost for this failure.

I would be surprised, the labour of disassembling the servo de-soldering the motor and pot, replacing the board and re-soldering everything is likely going to cost almost as much as a new servo.

Exactly! KISS is what I try to live by and it works pretty well when you are on limited time.

Sorry to hear about frying your servos button head. If it is any consolation, you are not the first and will not the be last, but hopefully people will learn from your honesty about what happened.
