Default Atom 500 Swash Problem

Has anyone had trouble with their swash plate coming apart?

I've had it happen twice now. I'm sure the swash was damaged in one of my crashes, but both times it came apart, it lead to another cash!

Also, is there any way to fix it? It does snap together, but it probably won't stay together.

The two pieces of the swash (base that connects to the servos and the top that connects to rods that goes to the head) came apart.

So no one else has had this problem?

Odd that I've had it happen twice.

It definitely shouldn't do that. My Atom 500 swash went through several crashes and it finally completely locked up on cyclic movements on my last crash, but I never had it come apart.

Have you had any really hard crashes? I suspect if it popped loose once, something got "sprung" and it wouldn't stay together after that. I'd suggest contacting whoever you got the heli from and explaining the situation. Worst case: you have to buy a new swash, which you'd have to do anyway if you didn't contact them. Best case: you'll get a free replacement.

Bum,

I actually had 2 separate ones comes appart. I've had numerous smaller crashes with one big one (I think vibs got to my Sk720 and it simply shut down).

I ordered a replacement, as I wasn't sure I could trust the "repaired" swash, and it happened again.

Maybe I should be their crash pilot to test parts.

So when I press the top into the base, it seems to snap into place - would you trust it?

This happened to my 6HV 2 weeks ago not from crashes to my knowledge. The brass retainer ring that holds the ball in place had come loose. I caught it as I was strapping my batteries in. It appears that the brass ring wore on the outer edge where it hits the aluminum in the top of the swash. after playing with it a few minutes I noticed it was binding the pivot ball. I was able to see the brass ring loosening in the aluminum by pumping the collective on the bench. I almost asked for a warranty replacement, but I took it apart as I wanted to see what caused the issue. The aluminum wore out around the brass insert, the brass was still in tact as if it was new. I did NOT trust snapping it back together. I ordered a new swash as I figured it was cheaper to replace the failed part than to risk a possible rekit or hacking my arm off due to a mechanical failure.

-Edit: I just noticed you mentioned something different from me. Your's did not have the pivot ball and brass bushing pop out as mine did. it's worth noting what I saw so others can watch for it though.

Because I can "snap" it back together, it looks normal.

Sounds like the outer limit of the machining tolerance was met. AKA someone cut the inside too far and lost the press-fit with the bearing. If it holds together until you fly (as you described), then that's something that would have been pretty hard to catch in quality assurance/control. It sucks because it's such an expensive part.

All you can do is green loctite the bearing onto the part of the swash that doesn't fit tight. If the contact is too loose, that won't even work, and you'll need to get a new one.

BTW, I have the bottom half of a swash sitting in my tool box if you want it. PM me if you do.

Thanks for the offer Jimmy.

Again, Nankin (Mike) shows what kind of firm they are by standing up to this part. They warranteed the cost.

Got to love Nankin.
