Default Raptor 60 & 90 Electric Conversion

Been meaning to post this for a while......
Anyone interested in converting their Raptor 60 / 90 / 90SE to electric, fly-bar-less ?

I had an old Rappy 90 lying gathering dust.....

After a fellow "Helifreaker" convinced me to "just do it" I set about doing the design and getting the required bits manufactured.

The key items were:
1. Custom machined motor mount (I used a Scorpion 4035-400kv)
(the mount needed to create space for the batteries ontop of the landing skids)
2. Custom machined shaft for the HK4035 - for a 13tooth, 6mm internal diameter pinion.
(I wanted to utilize the starter shaft bearings for added support / strength)
2. Battery tray / spacer for
3. Fitting a fly-bar-less head. (Used a RJX 90 size head - 12mm shaft)

Installed equipment:
Kontronic Jive 80HV ESC. (with large heat-sink added)
Scorpion 4035-400 motor.
BeastX.
Futaba 9252 digital servos on (cyclic), 9255 on Collecvtive, 9254 on the tail
Spektrum 7200 DSM2 receiver with 2 satellites.
2 x 6S, 4500mAh LiPo packs
690mm main blades, 105mm on the tail.

It flies really, really well.
1900rpm gives 10 minutes flying mild 3D / big F3A aerobatics. (re-charge takes 3200mAh)
(J-Log file of the Kontronic ESC shows an average of 70Amps, with momentary peaks of 120A)

Attached are drawings of the machined components, but, if anyone is interested, I will gladly supply CAD models and more detailed info!

Thumbs up

Thanks guys!

It was a really satisfying exercise.
I must give credit to Stolla (fellow Helifreak'er) for the "push" and help getting the RJX head set up, and many mugs of coffee!

Default raptor 90 electric conversion

Hello,

I just read your post on your raptor 90 electric conversion. Would you have any more details on the build? I have my old Raptor 90 I've been thinking of converting to cut down on fuel costs. I have it in the Thunder tiger MD500 scale body, so I'm mostly just flying for sport. But the build will have to carry the 13lb weight. I'll have to look into the scorpion motors? How much flight time are you getting on what size battery?

None the less, would you be able to recommend someone I could send your plans to have the parts machined? What did that cost you?

Thanks,

Chris Swann
