Default New Beam Owner (soon)

Worked out a trade with mightythor on here. First off this guy is top notch as far as communication and being very thorough with me. He's even went as far as to create some homemade vids of how to set up the tail and some other functions since this is my first 450 class heli.. coming from a cx2, msr, mcpx, a gaui 200(traded off was too much for me at the time((went from cx2 to gaui 200... yeah lol))). I've spent sim time on aeroflight as well as phoenix. I'm getting quite a few spares in the trade and he is also picking me up a brand new set up wood blades before he ships it.. If you ever see his name in the buy/trade forums rest assured it will be a pleasant transaction throughout the whole process!

Great stuff Cliff, you'll be happy with the decision. They are a fantastic little heli.

Yeah I'm gonna be fairly active in here for a bit because my knowledge is low. Look forward to asking some dumb questions. While I'm waiting for the heli to arrive I would like to set up a Beam model on my DX7. Beginner settings if possible. (plan on flying in idle up etc.) Could use google but afraid I might run across some bad settings. Maybe someone knows a set of good settings I could start with?

Looking for a good battery's at a good price as well. Anyone able to recommend something that would be good for me?

In general, a 2200 mah 35C 3s lipo is the battery of choice. I've heard good things about the GensAce lipo: http://www.hobbypartz.com/98p-25c-2200-3s1p.html I might pick up a couple of these since they are relatively inexpensive. They are rated at 25C, but perform like a higher "C" lipo. I'm running Hyperion G3-VX2200-3S. Thunder Power has reduced their prices on the 45C lipos (TP2250-3SP45) and are excellent batteries.

I would look at the Gens Ace as previously mentioned, might be an option to look at some flybar weights for a few flights as well, they really tame things down a lot.
Looking forward to you getting it

Default Helping out

I can help you out with some dumb questions. Are you guy using Deans or E3 connectors? When I plug in my Deans sparks fly everywhere.

I am new to this to. After building my Beam with Finless' videohelp I felt that I did a good job but was paranoid about the set up. I met with a guy in a club in the closest big city today and the meeting was priceless. This guy, who I found on the forums, has years of experience and he found that my ball links were too stiff, he greatly improved my gy401 set up and balanced my swash at midstick, low and high. This was all done with blazing speed. I learned a ton.

Be sure and hookup with an expert. The videos are very good but you just can't beat a human connection.

Good luck,

Russ

I use XT-60 connectors, but that's just because my cheapo Turnigy packs come with them pre fitted.

EC3.

XT-60 are good.

Sparks happen! Wait until you get into the 10s and 12s stuff.

Came with my kit as well.

I did put them on, but completely on the inside, right up against the cage.

Showed up in the mail today! So far all I can say is precision. She really is a beauty not to mention a nice clean install. Going to get the DX7 programmed in the next day or two. Still waiting on deans connectors to show up for my charger which should be in 2 days.

is that esc a good one for this bird? From my understanding its enough power but hadn't heard much as far as align esc's go. I'm no hard 3d guy or anything. Going to be hovering and mild FFF for a good while. Just wanted to ask as i've been reading threads lately where esc's have been going up in smoke.
