Hi Guys,
I would like to show my first scale project, about the electric conversion i did in My R22 that i bought second hand en changed in to a scale heli project , i had a scorpion hk4035-400kv before on 12s 2x 5000mah with an 8mm shaft with the CC 120HV and a 17Tooth motor pulley, but as we al now the scorpion bearings aren't really top notch quality. So they wore out after about 8/9 flights and the shaft ran hot and at the end the motor just had a bad sound, and trembled alot. British helicopter team Real R22 G-Zapy : 2006-06-17-028FD G-ZAPY | Flickr - Photo Sharing! [IMG] ![]() By kknops at 2012-06-09[/IMG] You can see some building info here on my flickr page kknops' photosets on Flickr It uses about 2100 of power max, 36A during hover and 32 during flight, average of 19Amps during a whole flight. All i did now was change the motor with a kontronik PYro700-450KV LS 6mm shaft, did about 4 flights now, with a 16t pinion the sound is very different then the scorpion one, and the temp in the heli was about 7 C° cooler, probably because the motor stays so cool, i can put my hand on it after a flight, whith the scorpion one, i could put a pan on it and boil an egg :-). All round now the heli flies great. Just going to bring the head speed up from 855 to 950, because 850 isn't that easy to fly whith the heli and apparently other R22 fly around 950 rpm. After that the first motor was broken, i tought why not make my heli scale like a real one like the one hear beneath. Youtube links : first converstion with 5mm aluminium base plate all over the bottom Second conversion with the Kontronik motor and scale look changed to the R22 - G-Zapy of the British Helicopter team. Also deleted the full 5mm base plate, but worked with 2x L profiles in aluminium goinf from the front to the half the base plate, took about 700gr of aluminium away. If you want an example of how i installed the motor on the base plate, let me know, i'm happy to send it. Or past it on the Forum, Sorry for my english, i try to do my best. Kind regards Kevin

Did you extend the main shaft yourself? The heli looks good. Good work.
The English is fine buy the way.

Hi SQRT(-2)
No i didn't make the main shaft longer , it is a standard 56cm shaft provided by vario specially for this R22 helicopter kit. The same mechanics are used in the Bell47g and MD500 but the mainshaft is not that long then. Thank you for your reply :-)

Kevin, that beast sounds awesome! I used to live in Torrance Ca. where they build the real ones. My former father in law worked for Robinson. They are a really cool little heli, great job!

Thank you veru much :-)
Cool, wish i knew someone that works for Robinson, i wouldn't have to fly the scale one maybe then I love the heli , i hope one day to be able to join a flight in the real one someday. ![]() As far as i have been able to read about the real R22 robinson, lot of people say its very good heli in real life to... I just tried to the rivets as scale like as possible, cause i only had some pics of internet from the real G-Zapy R22. But i managed, i got around 2750 rivets. Anoying job, but it gives a real scale look when you check it out closely. ![]()

Some of our local police depts. are getting R22s because they are a more economical alternative to the Bell or AS350. The sound of the piston engine makes the R22/R44 very distinctive. You hear that sound and you know it's a Robinson! I will say the new R66 is pretty cool also. Again, great job.
