Default Pinion won't fit?

Hey guys, I have a brand new Align motor, and a brand new align 15t pinion. The pinion won't stay on the motor and moves freely up and down the shaft. How can I fix this?

It should slide but not wobble. After allowing green locktite to cure for about 30 minutes it should hold tight. Make sure there it completely coats the inside surface of the pinion where it contacts the shaft.

Ahh, I gotta use locktite. I thought that was for threads only? Guess I gotta go get a bottle of the green stuff then.

Have you tried CA on the pinion that should do the trick.

As there are apparently different types of locktite that may share the same color I found the following link that might be helpful. http://stuff.mit.edu/afs/sipb/contri...ite/609-EN.PDF

The kit comes with R48 which is what is recommended for the pinion. 30 minutes with that will secure it to the motor shaft. I ended up buying these though: http://www.innov8tivedesigns.com/pro...roducts_id=543

I use one of these now after I managed to spin the original pinion off the motor while inverted.
I used ca and the set screw to hold it now and hasn't happened since.

Danny.

That's the way to go IMO. I will have to do that the next time it's on the bench.

I just used the R48 that came with the kit... It has held just fine, for a couple hundred flights, until today!

Second flight today, I was coming out of a loop and all of a sudden, I had no power... This happened at the very bottom of the loop and about 10 feet off the deck. She gently autorotated to the grass. No damage at all! So, I spun her up and only the motor spun... Pulled off the canopy and out dropped the pinion.

I thought it was awfully funny, and lucky, that the pinion actually stayed inside the canopy (I should have went out straight away and bought a lotto ticket!).

Glued the thing back on, but I'm going to get a pinion with a set screw in the near future.
