Is there an easier way to make a brushless frame?
Hello Helifreaks! I just signed up today, though I've been reading almost every day since November. I purchased my mSR X around that time, but I probably only have 30-35 flights. The flight times dropped an entire minute, and the main was hot enough to burn hair. (cut flight timer to ~2:40) I read about the motors and decided to plunge into brushless.
---------->>>>My biggest concern is that I may not have enough adjustability for proper gear mesh, and I was wondering if there may be enough delrin/CF pieces on the market to bolt an option together.<<<<----------- The "MMM" mod was a godsend, and I have an extra mCP X tail that's in the build bucket too. I only have 3 150-160mah batteries, so I really look foreward to sharing the larger battery pool with the mCP X. Any and all help is appreciated, and I will surely post pic's/vid's if my mesh works with the currently fabricated/unglued frame!

WOW! Now I'm jealous! I wasted half a day of my life cutting two inaccurate pieces of carbon fiber to glue to the original frame, and I bet I could cut that aluminum in 10 minutes! This is exactly what I was looking for, and then you topped it off with BLheli and a double-fet... All hail microheliaddict ! I'm not even sure I'll be able to solder what I do have (co5, xp-7a & Steve original), but I know I could easily program a chip. Thank you! I knew somebody had an easy way! That is one amazingly simplified bird you have, and I will love to see the double brushless. I should wait until I get my tax refund before I snatch up a Rakon frame though.
On a side note; my brushless 3-pin connectors didn't show today, and I passed flights 6-9 in the mCPX without a single crash or broken part. I impressed myself 'cause winds were 5-8, and I narrowly recovered from a gust that was 10-12 with the heli at 100ft away. Flight 3 on the mCPX cost $40 in parts and a month waiting for a servo. Today was the first day in the two months since the repair that I felt like bringing it out. It's still jittery because the rear servo has some slop. I have a back-up, but I figure it will be okay since I'm still picking up orientations. |

That is a sweet set up! Someone should sell a fabricated motor mount for those of us missing the metal shop tools/skills!

That is one sweet set up you have there heliaddict ! I am going to have to try one of those myself. Would you mine telling us which motor and speed controller you used and where you pick yours up at, any other info that would help us !

Even better if you could make a full How-to video, and help us build our own brushless mSR x.

I think brushless conversion is definitly the way to go on these micro helis as the original brushed motor seems to have such a high failure rate.
I modified the mSR in the past to brushless and it looked very untidy with odd carbon fiber shapes with JB weld blobs! The aluminium bracket was relatively simple to make using a piece of 10mmx10mmx1mm angle, cut, filed and drilled to size. The Rakon frame definitely makes this a far simpler conversion! Maybe Rakon can be persuaded with a couple persuasive emails to release a brushless frame option! I'm currently using a modified ADH30S outrunner from here: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=9997 - I rewound to 6 double turns wye (not sure what the KV this is, has 9 tooth stator and 12 magnets?) and using a 1mm shaft with 8t pinion. I'm going to try Oversky HP03S 13500KV with 9t pinion available here: http://www.overskyrc.com/index.php?m...products_id=67 as Dylwad has used here #275: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...390517&page=28. These seems like a higher quality outrunner. For the tail I will use the HP02T available here: http://www.overskyrc.com/index.php?m...products_id=63 and will mount on one of Asteroid Designs motor mount http://astroid-designs.myshopify.com...l-motor-mounts. Will also run this off a XP 3A ESC with BLHeli tail code. This BLHeli code is amazing work by Steffan and gives so many options that weren't available before by using converters like TheSteve + code is being updated regularly + save weight of not using a brushless converter! |

If I wanted to run the motor you have without rewinding it just yet would that be feasable? I imagine it'd still be more powerful than stock? Would I need the same accesory parts you have there? Or will I need a differetn combo of crap? I know didly jack about brushless other than it lasts longer and gives more power/V. My motor is going out and I think now's the time. Lasty... where do you get 10mmx10mmx1mm angle aluminum LMAO??
Whats a good thread to learn about the ESC / what an ESC even is/ how to wire this crap/ what parts I should get/ ETC.

I feel exactly like you Burnout.
Although my budget will not allow me to start down this road just yet, I do plan on going BL on this and the mCPX. BTW were you joking or do you really not know what ESC is? Electronic speed controller.

My budget is non existant. I have a daughter coming in 17 days and my son will be 3 in 12 so yeah, I'm broke LOL. The BL motor he linked to is only $15.60 though. How much would the rest of the parts I'd need for the conversion run me? The aluminum is gonna run about 15 cents LOL. I'm so lost on all the electronic stuff though. I'm literally only 2 months into heli's and my first two were a mCX2 and an mSR X... I honestly had heard it was Electrnic Speed Controller somewhere but up until now I really had no need to know so I didn't pay it much atention LOL. So, where should I go to find out more on this junk LOL. I don't wanna jumble my brain with a bunch of info that won't apply to me and the mSR X and mCP X specifically...
BTW I just got my mCPx in the mail

Was just curious, am new to heli's as well got my mCX in Jan. and my mSR X and mCPX on Feb 10th. Have plane and car experience, but my knowledge is fairly limited to personal experience. Only real ESC I have is in an old Tamiya "Avante" 4wd racer. Your gonna love that mCPX!

I got the angle from local DIY B&Q in the UK. ESCs are very straight forward. If you buy a XP 3A it will come with instructions how to connect it up. To flash ESC to BLHeli code you will find all the info you need here: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=390517 |

Am I missing something or is total cost for this 9.36 for the ESC + 34.90 for the motor + 18.63 for the toolstick base adapter + a few cents or whatever for the Al + an hour or so of my soldering??
Looks like about $63 and I shouldn't ever have to buy another motor again.

Hey Metal, lets split the price of the toolstick and you can have it when I'm done LOL.
