Nitro canopy painting using spray cans?
Hello, i want to paint my nitro raptors canopy. I don't have any fancy painting equipment, just walmart shelf brand spray paint. That being said what do i need to do? How do i make it nitro proof? The canopy is white now, do i need to spray the whole thing in primer if one of my colors in the scheme is going to be white? I think i'm going to be going with white/red/black. I saw an awesome effect on here with mesh so i figured i might highlight the black parts with neon green or yellow. Just thinking out loud there. Thank you for any and all help with my project here!

iv done it many times.
iv had great luck doing it. this is how I have done it. 1- sand it with 600 wet/dry sandpaper ( wet sand it) you just want to take the shine off. 2- 2 light coats of primer ( best to use bumper car primer ) but I have don't it with regular ( cheep ) primer. 3- sand the primer to smooth the surface. 4- paint your color ( do light coats ) you do not want to much paint as the thicker it is the more it could chip off. look at the paint for plastic it will be better if you can use it. 5- when your done with your color let it site for a day or 2. then your ready for some clear. I use acrylic clear coat. I put on 3 coats. mist it on, let it tack up then do another light coat. do that 3-4 times. let it dry for a day or 2 and you will be good to go. now remember you are painting a plastic canopy so it will at some point start chipping. I did this to a evo 50 canopy and I used that heli for 3 years and the paint was still good ( not chipping ) I still have that canopy. I hope this helps. |

I would recommend using this clear, totally fuel proof and tough. It also has the best spray nozzle I have ever seen in an aerosol

clear will go over the stickers just fine, just watch out for runs on the edges...
