Default Advice Please, Soldering On Ciruit Board

Hello again, my greatest fear finally came to life today. The wire to the tail motor broke off

the 5in1 board . I would appreciate any tips to successfully repair it. My main question

is that white stuff on the board, what ever it is, is it best to remove it? If so how? The red

wire off the board that connects to the female plug for the tail motor has broke.

I'll have to wait till my new soldering station arrives so I can do a neat job. I have successfully

repaired the wires on the tail motor its self with my solder iron but it wasn't pretty as the tip is

way too big and the wires broke flush with the grey plastic on the tail motor, but it works .

I must admit I'm a bit anxious about soldering on the circuit board so any advice is appreciated.

Till the solder station arrives I guess I'll study som soldering vids.

Thanks guys.

One thing you can do is find a circuit board out of an old piece of electroninc equip (a dead wireless phone or almost anything else) and practice on it a few times so you get a feel for the desoldering part and then solder the wire back in. A desoldering pump is a good investment (and can be pretty cheap) as it helps clean up the board a bit and usually uncovers the hole so it is easier to put the wire back in to re-solder it.

OK rodger that, I have desolder pump and I will practice using

it on a old circuit board. What about that white stuff on

the front of the board, should I remove it or just desolder

the back then thread the wire through the hole in the board

and resolder. Thanks for the help & advice.

I don't have a 120SR, but have worked on the boards of other Eflite / Blade products. Typically the white stuff is a silicone blob to help reduce the strain on the wires from vibration. You should be able to pull it off or carefully snip it off with small wire cutters.

Soldering is an art. Especially small stuff. Practice really makes a difference. "Solder wick" is also good stuff for removing solder and to free up holes that may be clogged with solder. Soldering flux is also great for helping the joint stay clean and the solder flow properly when heated. Can clean off later with alcohol. A small soldering tip is a must and the proper heat. Not too hot, not too cool. Don't overheat / fry the board. You really have to practice to get good at it.

There are some videos online that can help you with your technique.
