Hi Chuckk

In my experience with my NSP I just waited until my engine was broken in, about 7 or 8 tanks with needle valve 1.5 turns open, then I started closing the needle valve, now I have arround 98° C with just one click before a complete turn in the needle valve. With this setting I started testing the Governor and it is working good, so next weekend I will tach the revs in Idle 1 and Idle 2 in order to adjust to the proper setting (1900 to 2100 revs).

So I will be installing the CarbSmart sensor during the week in order to test it next weekend.

Best

Hi Scottc, just make sure you have the "governor" option in your TX, because Bignose has the 7C FM and for some reason his firmware version does not support this option, I am sure you have it but check it just in case.

And sure, I will be posting the results,

The test plan will be:

1.- Temporary set the throttle curves to 50% in order to double check that the governor is working.

2.- In the governor option currently I have for Idle 1: 80% and for Idle 2: 80%, Normal is 0% (OFF) with this initial configuration I will start taching it.

3.- Have the heli sitted in the ground with the idle switch on and carefully tach the revs, In my oppinion is more dangerous to have someone else to try to tach it while in flight. The best way to do it is to spool up the heli and in the air activate the idle switch and the land it back with the idle activated.

It is a quiet dangerous procedure but I do not see any other way to do it. Am I wrong?

4.- Play with the governor setting in order to get the proper revs for Idle 1 and Idle 2.

Keep you posted.

Best

Ok, Saturday Results:

1.- the governor is working great as I was playing with the settings in the governor option.
2.- I tached at 80% and it was 2010 rpm
3.- I finally set the governor at: Idle 1: 77% - 1900 rpm's aprox, Idle 2: 83% - 2100 RPM's, normal 0% governor off and controlled by the normal throttle curve.

Ok, so I tested my Carbsmart also with great results.

Hope the information in this threat helps.

JC,

Looks like you have it nailed. Many thanks for all your help with this one. My confidence is coming back - thanks! The 600 has been hovered by my buddy at the club and fly's really well, I forgot the training gear so I will have to wait for the next club session to setup the governor.

Regards

Shaun

I know this thread is a bit dead now, but just in case anyone comes back, a big thank you Carlangas and others for working this out!!

It has saved me a lot of time, and saved me money, as I was going to buy a futaba governor when I didn't need it for my 7C 2.4.

Thanks again, Al.

Hi JC

I have the same set up as you have so this has helped me a lot.

My manual has 3 columns to use with diferent radioes, two of them for Futaba radioes, but wich one am I surposed to use?

The options are: Futaba PCM 1024Z and Futaba T14MZ but wich one goes with the Futaba 7C 2.4GHz? Engine speed varies for the same persentage radio to radio.

Hi Ali, Jan

I'm glad this information was usefull for you

Before doing this setup I was going to buy a CV1 Governor too, but after researching, experimenting and having help from some good guys here, finally I got this setup in my 7C.

Jan, the column you must use is the T14MZ. But below you can see my current setup after many flights tuning it up.

UP> 0%
CT> 75 % Last one
DN> 80% Last one
MIX> ON
SW> E
DIR> +LIMIT

Hope it helps.

Best

Carlangas

Please, I need your help.
I“m having problems to setup the Align gov and a Futaba 10C.
The light seems to working ok, like yours:

Normal - red
Idle 1 - green
Idle 2 - green
Hold - red

The problem is the light turns green, at idles, only above 50% at Governor menu.
Is this happening with you or the light stays green below 50%, too.
Your channel 7 is normal or reversed?
I tried this gov with a Futaba 12MZ and the problem is the same.

Thanks
Marcelo

Hi Marcelo

What are your values in the gov menu?
In my case the chanel 7 is normal, chanel 3 (throttle) is reversed

Try to play with these chanels to see what happens, also try to calibrate your gov with a linear throttle curve (this is a must)

The gov turns off below 50%, that's why I have 0% for normal, 60% Idle 1, 70% Idle 2. So when the switch is in normal position, the light is red, when I switch it to Idle 1 or 2 the light turns green.

I think your problem must be a configuration issue, just try to play with the recommended settings and I'm sure you will get it working.

Please do not hesitate to ask if you continue having problems.

Best

Juan Carlos

Hi Juan

Thanks for the reply

I think now I made the correct setup
I will start to test the gov with your % settings
The only difference is the ch7. In my case is reversed and I don“t know why.

Marcelo

Ok, I guess yours is reversed because of your radio is different than mine and the switch positions could be different or your servo setup is different than mine.

But anyway, just try, take it ease, test your setup step by step, do not hurry up and have fun.

Please let us know how is it going.

BTW, I have been in Sao Paulo three times and I love your city, not to much time to walk around because of I've been there for business, anyway I had fun. Ohh I miss the hot pao de qeixo, friendly people, Fogo de Chao and the beautiful girls.

Best

You are correct about the radio! I think I will test the heli tomorrow....yes, at friday.
The next time you come to Sao Paulo contact me and we will eat some "pćes de queijo" at Fogo de Chćo and... fly some helis!!!!
Below you can see our club, in Itu, a small city near Sao Paulo. A friend take this 360 photo to make a airport to fly with Real Flight G 4.5.

Talking This is no "dead thread"

Thanks everyone, I stumbled on this thread after ordering my Align governor. Thanks to your help, Helifreaks, I got my 7c 2.4 set in no time. I think I had to turn on the heli in Idle 1 to get the governor to come on, switched to Normal, then hit the Throttle Set button on the governor, then went full stick. Now my ATV is 100% up and 65% down, because the servo had more throw than I needed, and my throttle curve on normal is 12-40-50-75-100. I set throttle servo ATV to full open and full close without crashing the stops, and used pitch curve to set idle (hence the 12 on the low position). When I went full stick in normal, the blinking light on the gov went out per the instructions (but for less than a second), telling me it took the throttle calibration, then came back solid red (because I have the gov off in normal). In Idle 1 and 2 I have green. In the governor screen I have UP>0.0% CT> 78.0% DN> 82.5. Dir was +limit and I used Swicth E. I was surprised how sensitive it is. .5% is noticeable on the tach. I have 1900 in Idle 1 and 2150 in Idle 2. I went negative to positive pitch, made a hell of a lot of noise and smoke in my driveway, and had a perfectly successful test. My friend Charlie told me about an "SWOF" setup (strap the heli to a cinderblock, rev it up, and "see what flies off"). This worked great for setting the RPM. Don't know what I would have done if it picked up the block! (LOL).

Great to hear that Clear4takeoff,

Just a question, did you calibrate the Align gob with a linear throttle curve and 100% ATV's both sides?

So is the cinderblock your best friend since then?, LOL

JC
I didn't calibrate the Align governor with 100% ATV each way. I used my normal flight mode which has 100% in the throttle up position and 65% throttle down. This is the way I set it so the servo wouldn't strain against the mechanical throttle stops. Also my throttle curve was 12% at the low position because that's where the motor idles. The calibration seemed to take just fine, and when I loaded up the blades with the tach in place, it maintained perfect RPM. I still need to test fly it, hopefully tomorrow. If I have any issues, I'll program a linear throttle curve and reset the gov. I have a feeling that since most of my curve is linear, that was good enough because the governor will be operating the throttle well above idle, and I believe it really just wants to know top throttle position so it doesn't crash the full throttle stop on the engine.

The cinderblock will be my best friend when it starts giving me hobby store gift cards to subsidize this ridiculously expensive hobby! LOL
