Default Mikado 500SE

Hey all, I've got a question on tail boom removal on the Mikado 500SE. Vision is poor, and the shop light isn't much help tonight. What is holding this boom in where my driver is pointing. I've looked at the manual...not finding my answer there. Is is a grub screw?

No grub screws on mine. Just the four within the frame and the pinchbolt
just outside the rear of the frame. If you have already loosened those, try
twisting the boom back and forth a bit to see if it will loosen.

No, that's not a grub screw. It is the spot where many of us put a small screw to pin the boom (and connect a ground wire at the same time).

It doesn't look like any screw is there. Just have to loosen the bolts more. I actually loosen the 2 just forward of the 4 in the slots too because they are close and could be preventing the sides from separating just a little.

Some people have been known to pin the boom per se in that area but no specific direction in manual. When one over tighten the clamps or used after market boom that a specific place cloned they spun n to prevent this spin they would drill n pin the boom with a small Allen screw but doubt use to long or it could drag the belt. One could also use this as a static brush area to remove static using a long brush in the hold long enough to touch belt thread Long Allen screw n wire n nut them attach to aircraft ground.

It's difficult to see the rear boss, but it might have a set screw in it.. If not, you will just have to loosen the bolts more.

So I was able to just pull it out with a little rocking back and forth. It was just kind of stuck in there at first. I appreciate the pointers all. I didn't want to tear something up in the process of taking things apart here.
I really like these machines. Mikado makes some nice heli's!

Glad you got it figured out! And yes, Mikado makes some damn nice helis. Even when I sold my 500 3 years ago and bought different helis, I longed for my Logo... Got a 600 rockin' now, and it is going nowhere.

There are a number of reasons to buy a Logo, (smoothness, lightness, looks and performance) but the biggest reason for me... flexibility. With the same frame and head, you can go from a 500 up to a 700 with nothing more than different boom, belt, pushrod and supports. The ultimate do everything design!

well said!

Versatility is just ONE of the things that keeps me flying these. My 500
has went through at least half dozen 'transitions since buying it in 2007
