i doubt theres more than a gram or so difference but dont know, a cf boom is mainly a bling item and not worth the lesser durability to me, main place weight can be saved on a trex250 imo is lipo like 800 vs 1000mah and run 4 minutes of blistering performance vs 6 minutes flying a brick around the parking lot .. second on my list is minimizing wires .. third would be careful selection of electrics, run a full set of 65mg's and a gy401/9257 and youve probably tacked on 50g's over what would be possible with better selection of components at the same or better performance level .. HUGE difference compared to the 1.5g you saved by trying to use a weak cf boom .. also 'upgrading' alot of metal shiney parts onto the heli is likely adding a ton of weight with zero benefit ...

The biggest advantage of carbon is not the weight. It is the fact that they don't bend -- just break. So, no belt alignment issues using carbon. Oh, and dze is also right, more bling.

I weigh in a 360g with allot of bling
Some of that Bling, IMO, provides a more rigid airframe as well as lookin' good.

Carbon: 3.7g
Aluminum: 4.7g Just a comment about the difference that the choice of electronics can make - my trex is about 80g heavier than my Gaui 200 and I calculated that nearly 40g of that was just the beafier electronics in the trex (that doesn't include the battery). I sort of went in opposite directions with the two builds. |
