need help convincing myself i need a protos
Guy I've been wanting a 500 heli for a while now. I bought a new gaui 425 but sold it after assembly. I'm wanting a heli that needs no upgrades and the protos seems like it.
Also I want to be able to use my 3s 2200 packs together and get more than 4 min flight times. No 3d as of yet just starting aerobatics so what do you think? Carbon kit with stock motor and esc fit the bill and have room to grow as I learn? |

I flew a T-Rex500 for +800 flights. Flying a Protos now for about 100 flights...
In my opinion the T-Rex is a heavy b*stard that sounds like an old coffeemill compared to the Protos. I bought the plastic version and I am happy with it, flies very good. Only problem is the bearings that keep the tail output shaft. I didn't glue them in and they were worn out pretty quick. So right now I am waiting for a metal tail upgrade (although the stock plastic tail would do if the bearings are glued in). I fly it now with 2450 and 2650 lipo's, and that gives me about 5'30" @ 2600 RPM. Learning 3D like funnels, tictocs, piroflips, with way too little collective management.

I've said it before: The TRex is a Vette, the Protos is a Ferrari.

One is not enough. You need two.

You need convincing?
Watch one fly, and listen to it, that is one cool sound. Then fly it, that is one cool feeling. Got two love them both, flew 5 packs today at lunch. Grinned from ear to ear on all 5 packs.

I've thought about the trex500 but I have a 450 and I kinda want to get away from align. Also with other 500s it would make sense to me that the heavier the bird the less flight time per mah you will get?
What kinda flight time could I get with a protos 2200mah pack and average head speed for sport flying? Also is the factory kit with esc and motor a good combo or go aftermarket esc? |

450 to Protos was a great step for me. It's just a treat.
And you covet no helicopter. Except Logos. Parts are multi-sourced. The plastic is great to work on (no locktite on the frames) and has little tunnels to tuck wire into and everything. Can't comment on the flight time. My early stock motor was great, I got a Castle ESC I didn't particularly like (and it's probably for sale if I can find it) so upgraded to Jazz. And VBar. So I guess my point would be that the recent stock imotor and ESC are supposed to be good, perhaps best. Spend the upgrade money on FBL.

I went from an Esky Hunter coaxial to a Protos. Talk about first impressions. I was awestruck!

Im new on Protos and the only problem I have I it is that after flying a trex 500 it feels like a rocket when doing tictocs. I think Trex 500 is easier to fly if youre not on 3D but if youre looking for 3D in the future, Im sure you will enjoy more the protos than trex 500. It is simply amazing! A lipo that feels quite weak in a trex 500 feels really powerfull on the protos. I agree with almost all that people told me here about it, the only thing I think they miss is that they say it is a bad crasher, in my experience( 3crashes) looks like it isnt

Plus 1 on the gotta have 2! I have loved every flight on the Protos's. Is that the proper plural for Protos?
