Trex 450 Pro build videos

The Deans caused a low voltage condition under load and the ESC shut down. The BEC in the ESC stayed up which left him with control. It did it 2 more times until Kevin finally replaced the Deans male plug.

thanks for clearing that up.

what actually makes a dean connector dodgy as such? life is it just the connection i.e if if's hard to push them together makes it a good connection?

There are knock off deans connectors out there. You can tell them apart from a real deans connector as the red color is darker. This was the case with Kevin. He used a knock off male deans that he had AND the battery pack I loaned him was also a knock off deans. I too had a problem with a pack that came with a fake deans even though I had a real one on the ESC. Same problem.... It cut off in flight but BEC stayed up.

I have replaced any packs I had with fake deans with real ones and have not had the problem again. Kevin has not either since replacing with real deans connectors.

One thing I didn't see in Bobs video. How to engage/snap on or take off the rear servo linkage arm. I am disassembling a 450 pro that had been built by another. How do I get the linkage arm off the rear swashplate arm and off the rear servo horn. There just isn't any room to work with. Is there a special tool? Great video Bob. A work of Love.

I take the screw out of the arm and pull the arm off the servo. This is how I did mine when I had to pull the head.

I just finished building and setting up my Pro.

I watched all the videos first. The videos were, as always very very useful.

The information regarding the tail pitch geometry and the fix for it and the pinning of the tail boom were especially useful.

Mine had been test hovered now and should fly tomorrow!

I got the chance to fly it around yesterday and am thoroughly impressed. It is one of the best flying helicopters I have flown in the last 30 years or so.

As far as you videos go, I watched them, then start building, and it was as though I had already built a 450 Pro before.

I would not have known about pinning the tail and would not have done the grip flip on the tail either-both of which I consider vital.

Your videos are excellent!


I do have one MAJOR COMPLAINT though!

I think I have a line on a ball muffler. If so, I have two partial Crickets which should be enough to make one that can fly. A lot of the parts are being re-produced also.

Eventually I will get around to it...

I loved that statement someone made on this board somewhere, "Do not touch helicopter...watch Finless video first.." It's true. Your videos saved my bacon several times. And if I had started watching them earlier, I wouldn't have had to spend a very dicey hour soldering new wires to the elevator servo that I had tried wedging into the frame late in the build.

Thanks for all your great stuff, Bob! I recently graduated from a Blade 400 to a Trex 450 Pro, super combo package. I have finished the assembly, all the controls are doing what they're supposed to. Before I fly it, I'd like some input from you or anyone else on what settings they/you have in their Spektrum DX6i Txs, especially swash mix and gyro settings. Thanks in advance!

I have now more than 5 flights and these are the settings that I came up with. I most likely will tweak them some more, but I hope this helps someone else out:

How the head servos are plugged into the Spektrum AR6100e receiver:
Rear - Elev. Left - Aux 1 Right - Ail.

Dual rates: 0 - Ail 100% Ele - 100% Expo - INH
1 - 80% 80% Expo - INH

Travel Adj: Only rudder - 60% left & right

Gyro: 0 - 65% 1 - 48%

Pitch & Throttle curves set up per Trex manual

Swash Mix: Aile + 80% Elev. + 80% Pitch -65%

Reverse: Elev., Aile., and Rudd are reverse.
Pitch, Gyro, and Thrott are Normal
Reverse was set on the Gyro istself
