Default 12v charging and capacity/rate question???

I noticed something interesting this weekend with my 12v lead acid battery that i use to charge my 6s packs. I always charge my packs (6s 5000mah) x3 at the field at 5 amps and i will get 3 charges at the field leaving my 12v battery at 12v and the charger goes into low voltage and stops. This past weekend i decided to charge my packs at a slower rate 3.5a and i got the same 3 charges and when i checked the voltage of the battery it was at 12.3v. Hmm this means if i charge slower that it doesn't consume the same amount of power/mah from the 12v battery. Can someone better explain how this makes sense since i have the same total capacity in the battery?
