Thanks! It looks like most of what I've found is 12mm OD x 10mm ID, which I think means it's twice as thick as the specified 12x0.5mm tube. Even the aftermarket CF tail booms for Trex 450 / clones seem to have 1mm wall thickness.

I'll keep looking!

Thanks! I've been looking there too, and all I see is 12mm OD x 11mm ID, which is a 1mm wall thickness. It would work, of course, but would be much heavier than the specified .5mm wall. It's got to be out there somewhere.

No, that 1 mm difference (12 - 11) is split between both "sides", so, .5mm per side.

Sorry, I meant to say all I can find is 12x10. Wishful typing I suppose!

Three little Oblivions are about to fly, we're curious how many return, let's hope they just don't die.

My guess, to test different configs for optimal performance: motors, kv, pinions, blades, etc.

Is the actual blade grip threaded or will it require a bolt?

hey,

yesterday we met up and built 3 machines from scratch. it was the hottest day of the year so far, and no AC...

it took us around 7 hours to build them and get them airborne at the flying field. only two of them returned in one piece unfortunately. it was a real stress test, both for pilots (40° centigrade) as well as for the helicopters. learned a few things, need to consider them in the design.

@hypnotoad: yes it does require an M2x16 bolt for the blade and an M2.5x20 bolt for the bladegrip. it is plastic, so you just screw the bolt into that, no threads.

@raptorapture: we basically wanted to just build a few and go have fun flying.

lets see the crash results,

you know the esc caps are pretty vulnerable sticking out front like that on your airframes, and the first thing I would do if I got one was put the battery where the esc is and the esc where the battery is, maybe for cog with an aluminum tail case and grips (any 450 design). A lipo is a lot less expensive to wreck in the long run than an esc and it would be nice and cool under the motor, also you never run the risk of an esc failure after some crashes due to repeated impact abuse.

From what I surmise you guys are coming from the micro 180 market and moving up in size preference.

Oh yeah, yesterday was fun. We built three helis, all with different setups.
Even though I already had one, I took it apart entirely and built a new one with a few upgrades (Blade grips with different geometry, visually adjusted skids, SLS tail fin, new tail housing). It got a YGE 40, the 2213-14 and KST-115 servos all around, so aiming for the ultimate 3D setup

Chris went for an ultra light setup (and succeeded!), he used the light 2208-24 on a YGE 40 with Eflite DS76 servos and 20g lighter Gens Ace 3s 800mAh batteries. He ended up with an insane weight of about 375g. He also maidened the new thrust bearing'd tail you saw on page 9

Dennis, a good friend of ours, basically built the setup I initially had, 2208-24, YGE 40 and KST-115. He loves it so far

Since we had insane air temperatures, we went to the flying field rather late (still 35°C outside). Sadly Chris' heli crashed pretty early, but at least we know what to improve
What broke is the swashplate's inner ring (Chris already made it beefier and is ordered a bunch), skids, one screw holding the DFC link and the tail boom.

I felt bad for that beautiful thrust bearing tail rotor. So I grabbed a screw driver, salvaged it from Chris' heli and put it on mine My heli had only one flight down at that point, I was running medium rpm till then. Since I had no idea what my high rpm was and I liked my heli in one piece, I kept flying medium rpm for the rest of the day I also didn't take my tail gain down, so I had a slight tail wag due to the increase in diameter. Here's a video of my heli with the new tail rotor Chris took before it was too dark to see.

Enjoy!

OBLIVION video #3 (3 min 49 sec)

BTW, I took that canopy prototype with me, already have plans on how I'll paint it

Very nice flight, governor is holding great (is it internal YGE gov?). Truth is, crash testing is part of the development of a heli Damage though is minimal so it is holding up great from what I understand.

That canopy you posted looks very much like a mini Logo by the shape of it.

Thanks Yepp, it's internal YGE gov. It struggles with McDoogles but it's doing a good job on overall governing.
And the canopy.. I know..
