Servos acting up while using a servo checker.

Astro flite servo checker, various digital servos:

Servos are jittery like they are not getting a steady signal. These are align and Turnigy servos.


Also, I have some E flite servos that work OK if you move the dial slow, but if you go back and forth with it faset it seems like the servo loses track of where it is and just stops, only to abruptly move to the desired location seconds later.


All above issues occur in bench testing with the srevos free to move and not installed or attached to anything.



Any ideas of what would cause either of these issues?

Maybe too late for you- but have you checked the servos just connected to your RX or FBL, with stick motions that are similar (fast deflections, etc)?

I have never seen any servo simply pause and then ‘catch up’ if they receive a valid signal.

Without knowing how you are powering the servos or the servo controller- all I can suggest is that it is likely the controller which is misbehaving, but that it could also be the servo(s) pulling too much power for the supply, causing the servo controller to freak out a bit. Normally, if this is happening, if you put backforce on the servo you would feel it go dead for a moment, instead of holding position (i.e. receiving a valid signal but paused for some reason).

I have a gws servo tester that is powered by 4 AAA batteries. When the batts get low or when testing big servos they will often freak out. What is powering your battery tester?

Im using 4AA cells.

Try powering it from a ESC/BEC instead.

That's most likely the problem. Standard AA cells cant deliver much current so the voltage is probably dipping too low for the servos.
