Wasn't happy with the esc temp so swapped out the HW100a v3 for the 120a v4. What a massive difference! Everything's coming down cooler and I'd even almost fly back to back flights with it now. I have added a Goblin style esc cooling vent which made a noticeable difference as well.
For some reason I can't find the edit button to edit my earlier post.

Hobbywing 120 v4 pro/fan on
Stock blades and tail blades

Using pulse 4100 - 45c bats, fit perfect on the tray --

With this build as you can see it weighs in at 6.56 lbs. Not bad and for the extra couple ounces I am guessing great flight and power times

I am going to start at rpms 2100 , 2300, 2500 --
That's a nice build you have there Iskareot.

FBL: GR-18 Graupner FBL Rx

Blades: DH 511mm main, DH 87mm tail

Finally was able to maiden this machine after my initial tip-over.
Flying at 2250 RPM I am getting right at 5:00 minutes of smooth 3D. I think this will increase slightly when I can change to a lower pinion as my governed throttle output is at 35% to get 2250 RPM.

The control feel is like nothing I have experienced before. The response is instantaneous and feels very much like flying a simulator helicopter. Can't wait to fly this thing some more

I'm back in the air after parts delivery. My current setup:
HW120V4, HW gov, fan.
Spirit Pro, Spirit/HW telemetry into DS-16.
Rex 7
JR QRS ELS01 Cyclic Servos
JR QRS ELG01 Rudder Servo
Thunderpower 6S 3850s & Revolectrix 3700s
KBDD green 515s
KBDD 84.5mm white or green tail blades (green on now).
White boom.

Here's how I'm connecting the battery. I've been doing it with heli on the side and trying to quickly flip to skids down so the FBL can initialize. I didn't like that since FBLs want no movement before initialization. Now I can connect while the bird is on the skids. I had added the cooling hole because max temp on the ESC (even with fan) was approaching 170F at times. The previous Mezon had a switch, so connecting inverted or sideways was not a concern.

Thanks

I checked the last three logs since I don't us a timer anymore, just capacity, but flying hard (for me) at 2700 rpm it's around 4 minutes ("land" alarm sings at 3000mah consumed) and if I fly low head speed and just putz around it's close to seven.

Dogbreath I have a question too, why are you using 120V4 esc and why the REX 7? My guess is that mAh telemetry goes from the V4 Esc directly to the receiver without a MUI sensor? And if you are using Ex bus protocol from RX to the Spirit why the need of all the other normal servo channels?

Thanks

I switched from the Mezon 90 because I had current spikes over 150 amps and it was showing pretty warm temps in the winter. It's summer now, so I went with something that I could add a fan to. REX 7 is only connected to the Spirit Pro on EXBUS and the ESC for throttle. When I used the Mezon 90, I needed the REX for Mezon and Spirit telem. I could use an R3 now, but the weight isn't much different. I guess I'm using it because I was using it. Kind of an inertia thing.

So, if am understanding correctly you are using the HW governor now, thats why you are forwarding the throttle from REX to ESC directly.

Thanks

sorry for kicking an old topic, but I'm just wondering if you see an improvement with other tail blades? I see quite a lot of RJX and KDBB tail blades

I'm chasing a slight tail wag (which could well be the vbar)
