Hi '1972neo',

looked at this idea nearly a year ago and came to the conclusion that its just not practical - - - cost wise.
Maybe a bit of fun to try but as far as the $$$ it will cost - its just not worth it.

Last Xmas I ordered two G-Smarts from an on-line shop in china for US $199.95 each, - plus US $ 45 odd for courier delivery costs from China to Western Australia.
The first one was as brought an Xmas present to a very good friend of mine, from my old army days in 'Nam. The second one was to be mine.
Got the last one in their stock and been waiting nearly a full year for another one to become available. :-(

Thought about getting one from a hobby shop in the U.S. - but the additional costs, shipping from China to U.S. - price markup by U.S. agent/shop, then the cost of postage from the U.S. to Australia makes that idea not a practical one - unfortunately.
There is one on-line shop here in Oz who have the G-Smart model for sale - but they are asking AU $680, plus another $60 odd for postage ! ( with what I would only call ' bottom of the market ' electrics and radio. )

After the G-Smart arrived we spent some time comparing most of the parts and their swap over between my E-Smart and his new G-Smart.
There are quite a few more parts that are different, not just the main frames. ie - battery plate, different bearing sizes, etc. in a number of places. Other things, - like the 'auto rotation tail drive gear is different - 16T verses 26T. It seemed there would be a whole lot of little bits and pieces to be changed over.

On top of little things like that you will probably end up wanting to up-grade a lot of the plastics bits and pieces, - - - like the whole of the head system, main blade holders, swashplate, tail gearbox, etc. for CNC metal ones - same as we do with the E-Smart.
We stopped about there and didn't even go so far as to try a test assembly to see if it would work - no real point in doing so.

If you live in the U.S. - you give no indication of where you live here on 'HeliFreak', - it would be more practical simply to buy a complete new G-Smart from a shop over there. Just about anywhere else in the world, the best bet is to find an on-line shop in China and buy a G-Smart from there.

Probably end up picking up a new G-Smart in January when I'm in Thailand with my 'Better Half'. - - - She actually ENCOURAGES me to fly R/C helicopters - brought me two Esky helis herself ! :-)
Now THATS what you call an understanding partner !

Take care,
