It comes down hot after a flight or it gets hot sitting on the bench?
Are you running DS410's? Are your links too tight or do you have other drag on the servos? How hot is hot? Is it above the operating temp of the ESC? Any other odd behavior such as oscillations or vibrations that could be causing excessive current draw from the servos? Need more info as the stock 250 combo electronics should be able to handle the 3G without issues.

Hot as in to hot to touch. And the esc gets hot just sitting on the bench. With nothing moving. Even the motor unplugged. It's got me. :-/

Obviously I'd hate to see you burn up your ESC/BEC or more playing with it and it may be best to talk to your LHS or place of purchase before proceeding. Sometimes it helps to have someone else look over your setup, it's easy to accidently get a wire backwards and not notice it.
Does it get hot with just the 3G unit and Sensor attatched with no servos? Do the lights and menus on the 3G appear to function normally? Do all the servo's react normally including the rudder? Hope you track it down.

I've run DS410M's/S9257 on the 3G with no issues but I was using a CC BEC at the time with a Pheonix 60 ESC. I'm really at a loss as to what's happening.
On the 250 have you tried raising or lowering the BEC output voltage? Can you verify the voltage reading on the 3G bus. Not sure where that would get us but I'm grabbing straws on this one.

Scoio ! The reason why you got that buzz sound is because your servos are binding to something. You have to loosen the mixing base a little so that your servo arms can move up and down freely. I can't believe you are using analog servos on 3G system. They are not recommended it.

I have switched out my servos 2 times. Even using ones not installed in my Heli. They are all digital and it still gets hot.

I wish I knew. Can one of you post some pics of the wiring? Not sure it will help but more information can't hurt if your willing.

I already took it off my 450. I'll redo it. I'm going to try and use a smaller battery.

i've just bought a seperate BEC which should fix it, and we'll see tomorrow!
the Align 15A ESC is only a max 2A BEC, which isn't really enough for all of the servo's with that much draw (increased loads because of the flybarless) |

We are talking about it getting hot on the bench right? No way it should be drawing that much current on the bench. Having a hot ESC/BEC at the end of a flight would be normal as long as its within the specified operating temp range.
The stock ESC/BEC/Servo's should work just fine with the 3G. Which leads me to believe something else is happening. The 3G is a "Plug-n-Play" upgrade which means the stock equipment can handle it no problem. I might question it more but I know other people are running the ESC/BEC without overheating problems. Running a smaller battery will not change the current draw. I don't believe that could resolve the issue. Wish I could look at it in person, never liked remote support.

after ages trying to find a solution, i did find that a few other people had the same problem, perhaps its the servo's as they're not the align ones so maybe they can draw alot of current.
and yep, it was getting hot on the bench, i couldn't even set it up! |

i know the HXT900's have a peak of 750mA which is pretty much the highest of all the micro servo's i found in a review some guy had done, which is not surprising it would be overheating as the FBL is gonna be using all 3 nearly all the time!

TREX 250 flybarless
My helifreakin flybarless 250 has never left the ground. The 250 esc overheats and we thought it was the 3G system that was bad. Then we remembered to use digital servos and changed those out as well. It still over heated. Then we changed the 250 esc to a 450 esc and same problem. I had an extra 600 BEC and then the problem went away. WTF!

Same happens with my ESC. It has never caused any problems, though.
I don't think it's the ESC itself. It's the integrated BEC that isn't up to the job when you switch to flybarless. You could always try to use a CC ICE instead (which may be a good idea anyway as Align ESCs have a fairly bad reputation). |
