Finally scraped up the time to attempt the BLHeli Tail driven build. Did all of the soldering, downloaded a bunch of crap, FAIL FAIL FAIL. Back to the garage to check soldering jobs.
White wire pin was apparently disconnected from the toolstick board... attempted to re-solder... soldered two pins together creating a short... soldering tip is now terrible.. fus fus fus... fix. Had the brilliant idea to use a balance extension to create a connector just to entertain the idea of a connection order during flashing (really unnecessary as I found out later). Ripped two solder points off the XP-3A. YAY! Attempted to solder directly to the pins on the chip, succeeded, but in wrong order. Created another splice without soldering just to get the business behind me. FAIL FAIL FAIL... Solder job was unsuccessful under closer inspection. Under closer inspection - pin ripped off of microchip. FUBAR XP-3A!!! No more worries. Buy 2 more, and wait another month to try again. What a waste of 3 hours! I need to find more flexible wires to solder to the programming points on the ESC, buy better soldering tips, and be better prepared. Time for bed!

Am planning to do this build too, when I can afford it
They have the XP-3a out there with pins already soldered. This soldering noob is ordering one of those, because I know if I dont, I'll be in the same boat as you. As for the main board, practice practice practice on junk first for me, starting with something simple like wiring lights to the same msrx next weekend.

I have absolutely no problems with the motor, power, and signal points. I de-soldered the pins that came on my board, even reversed one and re-attached. The problem I had was with the soldering points for flashing, I ripped those right out of the ESC because I was probably using too heavy gauge of a wire.

...back ordered! My Beast (gold), ap05, PKZU2164, XP7A build will probably be complete before I get them! I wonder what kind of damage this will bring upon my mCPX by then?

You can actally get the point to stick to the board again with patience and about 4 seconds of direct heat. I know because I did it LOL.

It's done dude. I ripped the red point, the white point, and the leg of the microchip that leads to the white point, off the board entirely. There's nothing left to grip to, and my soldering tip looks like a two prong fork. I can't post a picture 'cause I moved in with my g/f and don't have Internet here. Have to buy stuff on-line through my phone.

I'm definitely an addict. For the one ESC I destroyed, I bought 3 to replace! 2 for $10, 1 for $18. I'm wondering if I could just make a clamp for flashing those tiny contacts, but I think I'll just use tiny wires next time (like the Steve wires). I'm also thinking of cutting the canopy posts, motor mount, and landing gear mounts off a stock frame and starting over from there.
