Tail Wag - Trex 600 Pro DFC
Ok, I have gone through the setup wizzard, everything appears to be correct. The heli stays quiet in a hover except the tail has a violent tail wag. The gyro gain in the software is set by default to 55. I have a DX9, Aux2=Aux2 for gyro gain and have used settings from 45 all the way to 75. None of these gyro settings rid the heli of this problem.
Any insight? Last edited by robini; 01-18-2016 at 07:50 PM.. |

If changing the gain does not make a relevant difference, then I would take a close look at the mechanics. If the electronics does not change anything, than obviously the possibility is not given for it to do so. Not enough power/rpm on the tail or a not smooth enough mechnics usually is the case.

the tail functions properly and ball links are reamed and smooth. The head RPM are 26-2700 and tail 10,500 +/-. I have read that there are two possibilities I should try.
Any other insight is much appreciated! |

Headspeed seems a tad high for a 600? I run similar speeds for my 550.
Another thought ... is your governor gain set too high - I've had that do it. Is tail servo fast enough? Is it set to the correct type in the setup? If you hold the pushrod and try to change the tail blade pitch by hand, is there any slop? |

Reduce tail gain some more. A fast violent shake of the tail can really only be due to gain too high, so keep reducing it until the problem stops. Also make sure that adjusting gain in the Tx is actually lowering gain in the software as it's possible you have the Tx or software setup wrong so the adjustment isn't doing anything.
26-27000 RPM is WAY too high for a 600. The Trex 600 Pro likes high headspeed but not THAT high! 24k is about the limit. Lowering the headspeed will also help with the tail wag.

Is your gyro set correctly?
On gyro menu. Try ch. Gear. Sw. F mode. On switch select inhibit all. That's my setting in dx8. What flybarless unit you using? The above is for my beastx. For a 3gx I had . it would work on gyro menu like this CH aux2 Sw. Fmode. You have both on aux2.

As this is the Bavarian Demon forum, at a wild guess I'd say he's using a Bavarian Demon

Head speed is much too high. I ran 2550 on my 570 and it was an absolute Ferrari, you couldn't move your head fast enough to keep up to it !!
So first bring your head speed down to 2500 absolute max. Then start ironing out the rest. Cause headspeed is a factor that affects many things, you may get everything working at a headspeed then find everythings different at a different head speed. I do believe Align will publish a much lower headspeed for the 600. I fly 2650 on my 500, mind you thats not explosive powerful like my 570 was put its still very exciting ! I had tail wag on my 500 with my Bavarian Demon. I checked everyyyyyything, and couldn't figure it out. This is a guy that had 4 Bavarian Demons all flying mint including this one except for a gentle steady tail wag. I tried a Vbar Neo,,, and.... its EXACTLY the same. So I have to go back and recheck everything on the bird |

I had a similar issue (also a 4 BD owner) - I was thinking tail tail tail - but what made the biggest difference was changing governor gain - I think it was giving it a bit of a "kick" which the tail then had to react to - which made the tail twitchy. Just a thought.

Again, thanks to all for your input. For clarification the gyro is a 3sx. I have been working on the tail wag issue and am making progress. Now the tail is quite in flight but not stopping crisply from a piro or just cw or ccw rotation. CCW seems worse and the tail has much more "stop wag", as I will call it, than the cw direction.
I am going to try to slow down the headspeed and see how this helps. Another comment, I have been enjoying flying with just a 6S 3300mah pack since I can fly for 8 1/2 min. Pretty low headspeed. Should I be able to get a crisp tail at low rpm or will is just be part of flying this way? |

Uneven left/right tail stops are caused be the neutral tail pitch being off. For this you will need to adjust the length of the tail pushrod. Lower head speed requires higher overall gain values but the stops will almost always be softer. Longer tail blades help too.
