Cheaper alternative to GoPro?
So I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but I didn't know where else to post where this topic would fit. Anyways, what are some good cheaper alternatives to a GoPro? I don't have 200-300 dollars to drop on a GoPro and would like to film some of my flights [emoji2] thanks!

Check out the Möbius. Cost about $85. A lot of people are using these (myself included) on minis. I think I heard they are also making gimbals for them now. But I'm not sure about that last part.

mobius is the best bang for the buck out there at the moment.

So is it pretty much known now that the Mobius is the best choice for low budget?

The mobius is popular for FPV due to its long/thin shape, the SJ4000 is more of a gopro clone so fits all standard gopro mounts, comes with a waterproof housing and will fit most brushless gimbals - so really depends on what your looking for.
They are both pretty cheap, so probably worth getting one of each - buying both still only costs about 1/3 the cost of a gopro! There are a ton of comparison video's on youtube for more info. |

Lens cover for sj4000
Has anyone tried to find (or has found) a resource for a lens cover for the sj4000?
Don't mind wiping off lens each time before making video but would like to have a cover just the same. OR does anyone know if the outside dimensions of the GoPro and the sj4000 are the same? My measurements of the outside dimensions is 20mm.

For sj4000 lens cap I bought a 20mm silicon end cap on eBay and cut the tip off. Perfect fit and cheap.
For the sj4000 housing a gopro clone cap fits fine but misses the button. Fine to prevent scratches when not in use though. |

Another option is http://www.gearbest.com/action-camer...CNkhoCLtDw_wcB I have had pretty good luck with it. I know a few others that have too... There is an app that you have to download with your IPhone or Android device to make changes to the config of the camera and what not but it seems solid. I actually had a really interesting crash from about 80' up loss of power completely on my quad, hit the ground and exploded into parts! The cam was laying about 30' away from the quad, powered it up and downloaded the video, still works like a champ.

You can have a GP Hero 3 white for under 200 at walmart. Mine shoots vids and snapshots just fine. Does the job.
GP has come out with a new one that is even less money. It's a very basic model. Check at the GP site for details on it. |

Two alternatives
OK, nobody mentioned these two, I am surprised. [Edit: my bad, @bomdog did mention the Xiaomi Yi, two posts before ] There are really TWO serious alternatives to GoPro, and both of them for under $150.
1. Xiaomi Yi action camera. You can get this for about the same price as a Mobius ($70-100), but it shoots 1080p60 (60fps) and unlike the Mobius, it has a superb auto white balance. The video recording at 60fps rivals GoPro video. The downside is that the android app is Chinese only, however there is an open source project out there for an alternate configuration tool for PC/Windows, in English, which works great. The Yi is heavier than the Mobius (Yi=2.9oz, Mobius=1.2oz). 2. The Polaroid Cube. This is probably rivals GoPro the most. It shoots 1080p6 or 1440p120 (at 120 fps). It has amazing colors and seems to have great low light / dynamic range capabilities. It is also heavier than the Mobius, but lighter than the Yi (Cube=2.1oz). Both of these take microSD cards, and both of them are lighter than the GoPro, so they are better for mounting of quads/hexes. I have the Yi and I love it, I can vouch for it. I am also eyeing the Cube, but not pulling the trigger just yet. My hope is that the Mobius will come out with a newer version that can record at 1080p60. The current Mobius can't do that...

I probably have to check one out. I've had 3 mobius (mobi-i) die, refuse to record etc I've been liking the Runcam much better but the Foxeer looks interesting.

It may look like a Mobius and advertise 1080p60 but the samples online are not very compelling... I'll wait and see what this camera's true capabilities are.

MOV is a common file type for high compression with next to no loss of picture quality. Having said that...
Your player may not have the right codec to play the file. I use Gomplayer for my video play back. It will play just about anything you shove in it. As an added back up I installed the CCCP codec package. It sits in windows and is helpful for other players. Get Gomplayer here: https://www.gomlab.com/ CCCP codec pack here: http://www.cccp-project.net/ |
