Exclamation N5c TT Auto Gear Mesh issue

Howdy,

I'm nearing completion of my N5c TT build and I'm stuck. Once I complete the main transmission install (pg 40), the auto gear can barely turn. I loosened all bolts in the front transmission block and the main shaft bearing blocks to no avail. It appears that the auto gear is out of round and/or too large.

Is this something that will "wear in" or do I need to get this fixed?

Count the teeth on the auto spur gear. Wonder if you got a 54t rather than a 52

You should also ensure that the boom is flush with the rear boom mount no farther. If it is farther than flush it will push the mushroom gear in to the other gears causing them to bind.

Are you sure that you have the top bearing block for the spur gear facing the correct way?
Its actually slightly curved. The top of the arch in the curve faces backwards.

I ran into this a couple of days ago myself. You cannot tell from the manual without very close examination that the block is curved or which way it faces

Thanks Chris.

It's a 54t. Manual calls for a 54t. Is that wrong?

Thanks ChapaWolf.

Boom isn't installed yet.

Thanks Himilou.

Yep. It's going the right way. If not, the front transmission assembly can't be mounted in the frame...

I actually got to where all the screws were started but noticed binding. The I turned the bearing block arund.

BTW are you going to use a robird on yours? I'd love to know how it goes, I have a spare robird sitting around.

That's exactly what I did too.

I've had really good success with iKon on nitro so I'm sticking with it.

Im using Ikon on my N5c TT also. I had to turn my gov gain way up to get it to work. I think its around 80 something with align sensor and os 55 Hz hyper once I got it turned up though it was night and day. Its like I woke up the beast inside my OS55. If you like Nitro you will love this bird. It is THE 50 class nitro to own.

I've got the ikon on a Velocity 50N2 and an NX4. Really pleased with it so far...

Cool, good luck with that... saw one on a G4 at HoD last weekend... looked really good.

As for the gear mesh problem. Success! I had done the tail speed-up on my E5 so I had another 54T auto gear and spur hub. I pulled it from the E5 and installed it on the N5c... As I suspected, the known good gear from the E5 is butter smooth compared to the original. Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to finish this bird in time for IRCHA... I need help from a nitro tuning god.

I'm going to test the bad gear in the E5 in the next few days. The tail case can move so its probably more forgiving than the N5c... hopefully it works.
