Being deployed & away from family & friends sucks. The personal things you bring, you will cherish so choose wisely. Good luck and thank you for your service.

+1 good luck with the deployment - long time. Towpilot has had 2 deployments in Iraq since being on the HF SUpport team - got to do a little flying when the 2.4 jammers were off !

Thank you all! I don't know what I would do without HF and RR on long deployments.. I have learned a lot and met some great people.
As far as jammers, I have heard of people flying and having the unfortunate luck to lose control due to them. I have never experienced it, and hope to never experience it. I think because I am in rescue we aren't around them. Reception to RC anything flying around over there varies but nobody has ever told me not to do if. I don't so much and it's all very low.. In the 10-20 foot range. I still get all the same questions that you get at home from people who have never seen it. Is that from the mall? My kid has six of them.. Can I fly it? Lol... I am willing to teach anyone.. On the sim. Most give up. You want to know who is really bad at flying RC helicopters? Helicopter pilots.. Most of my pilots have tried it.. Few have succeeded, as a matter of fact, none that I know of.

that is because a real pilots fly with their Butt-o-meters... RC pilots have to rely on there Brain-o-meters :-)

I have been told that the Army and Air Force use very few flying pilots to pilot drones... Its the video game freaks that seem to make much better drone pilots.

Good luck and keep out of harms way!

well.. Seems like good luck has come my way. My 365 got cancelled, so I get to stay home, my wife's boss, whom is disliked by all, got orders, and I get to go run the phase dock.. which means no more deploying for me for awhile... and.... I GET TO BUILD THE 550 AT HOME! woo!
