Still too cold here to fly anything, also waiting to hear about a maiden or two and still trying to decide between 4000 or 5000 packs

My new GA 5000 35c & my green pulse 5000 45c both "just" fit between the tabs
They only fit one way, it's a snug fit, but not too tight that I can't slide the battery forward or back. Another 6 nights of work for me......blaaa, I hate night shift. Planning to maiden next weekend if weather is ok.

I can tell you this, while I was waiting for my replacement frame, I tried gluing the mounts back on. I wanted to see what worked best, so one one side I used Poly Zap CA and the other side I used JB Plastic weld. I was expecting the JB Weld to work the best...but I was wrong! The Poly Zap CA did a great job and held strong. The Plastic Weld ended up sorta brittle and broke again pretty quickly. |

While I would liked to have been in the air by now... I am still on the bench. Videos slow me down dramatically, as does life! A few minor setbacks to boot. It doesn't help that my son is has lacrosse practice 3 nights a week too! I'll hopefully be in build mode again this weekend.

Ya it's best to buy lipo's in country, at least Canada post still ships them, USPS considers them DG.

Rotorquest is on my way home from work... I just wish they carried more Thunder Tiger stuff.
Great Hobbies warehouse is about 10 minutes from my office.... Needless to say, I'm needlessly broke....

Vovets,
How much room is left to the front when you put the canopy on? Can you move the lipo still forward? Soko

Hi Guy's. Just my two cents for what it's worth. This model is the same as the E550s except for the head. I have both of these models now and I have found that the Turnigy 5000mah packs just fit between the frames when they are new but after a couple of flights they have to be turned over to the narrowest dimension as they puff a tad and will then be to big. As CPIOH has said they can be slid in from the side by just springing the canopy. I have my Esc mounted on the outside rear of the L/H frame on this model as the motor wires are not long enough or flexible enough to mount the Esc as I did on the E550s and so I insert my packs from the R/H side to get the best cable run. Just my preference. As for modifying the bottom tray I have not found this to be been neccessary. With the Turnigy pack up against the nibs and a 4.8v 2700 mah nimh backup pack mounted on the front of the tray these helis balance almost bang on, least ways I have found no problem with the flying performance. The E550s piro's on the spot with this set up and I am not good enough to notice the extra weight of the Nimh if it really matters. I haven't been able to fly the FBL yet as the Gremlins have been playing their games with the electronics, ie I couldn't get the Talon90 to calibrate, however I have now sorted that and as you might guess right on cue the wind has picked up to 20mph +. Argggggh

I got a quick maiden in on mine yesterday (I snuck over to the side of the field during a multi-rotor event here in Austin).
My friend Rod shot some video:

Andi, it was completely uneventful... Just the way you like a maiden flight to be!
The GT5.2 seems to work well. It didn't have any quirks that I could feel, but that is based on five minutes of flight time of course. So far it seems fine, and frankly it seems almost too good to be true!
