Default I had a failed auto today.

Well I failed an auto today. I lost lift and she tipped over. The only damage I can find is the tail boom and a small chip at the blade root where it rotated and chipped the paint and not the carbon fiber. I checked the main gear shaft and spindle shaft and both appear fine. No vibes and she hovered fine. Should I just replace the tail boom. If everything checks out am I ok. This is my largest heli I've owned so thats why I ask. Just to clarify about the blade chip. I is tiny and it is only the paint. I have had paint chip off these blades before I even flew the thing so that doesn't have me worried.

Do you think replacing just the tail boom is ok or is there more I should check for. Any suggestions?

Well the main blade that got hit has a chip in it about the size of a pencil dot so I think its fine. I spun the spindle shaft by turning it with a hex driver and I can't see any wobble. I am ordering a set anyways just to be sure. I powered the heli on without the blades on and the main shaft looks like its spinning true. Is there anything else I should check before I order my parts so I don't have to make another order later because I missed something. I have been doing that a lot lately with my 450 pro and I just wanted to make sure that I am being thorough. This isn't my first crash obviously but it is my first one with a 500 so I am just shocked that it was so little damage. That being said though the blades were not spinning fast when it tipped over. It was teetering for what seemed like forever and the blades had quite some time to slow down before it finally hit the grass. It caused the one blade to fold and then it stuck the boom and the dent was so small I didn't even notice it till I got home. I actually flew it after the crash at 100 flat throttle and it flew the same. I think I might be acting a little paranoid since its so new.

I've had those chips before. There's really no structural strength at that point on the blade, so it's nothing to worry about.

Thanks. I really answered my own question I believe on this post. I think I have enough experience now to successfully trouble shoot my helicopter. I was just being paranoid. Well I disassembled my heli and its just waiting for the boom. Not a big deal because this week is going to be windy as hell with gusts up to 40 mph. Saturday was the only good day I got to fly and I got in 4 packs so I got my fix for a while.

You made a wise decision. You know more then you think you know.
